It is very difficult to compare Facebook's Search Engine vs Google, Yahoo and MSN. Facebook's Search Engine has been release for a short time. |

Has anyone come across any data or methods that spell out how the facebook search results listing is determined? Or better yet, how to find the sweet spot of search/competition like we all do with google? I have a hard time believing the results are just 1. who your have already 'liked' ..then 2. all the others in no specific order. thanks. m |

Personally, I've used FB search twice in the past week - I was looking for dry cleaner in my neighborhood and I was trying to find info on a local event so I went to FB for both .. and found them both.

I use Google and Copernic. I only use FB search when I'm looking to see if someone is on FB. RoD |

Google only here. I haven't found FB very useful -- at least for my searches.

I can't imagine going to Facebook for the purpose of using it as a search engine. I'm no Google fanboy, but I consider it to be the best tool for search nonetheless.

Oh c'mon! Since when did Facebook became a search engine? Yes, they have their own algos when ranking search results but it only covers stuff that we can only find on Facebook. It's very limited compared to Google's billions of web pages.

Certainly Google is getting the vast majority of searches today but Facebook will be gaining search share as time goes on. If Facebook becomes known for using 'my likes and my friends likes' in the search return than folks will search for services within Facebook knowing that the results will include services their friends have used (essentially a testimonial). Also, since people spend so much time on facebook, when a search event happens they may just decide to search from where they already are, as opposed to going to Google for the search. It may take years before people adapt the habit of Facebook search or it may never happen. In the meantime, I'm betting that Facebook will continue to tweak it's search algorithm to provide the results that their users are searching for. So the question remains - what IS that algorithm? |
