Can subdomain value benefit the main domain?

I know just enough about SEO to be dangerous. I know that a folder on a domain adds value to the domain and that a subdomain can be benefitted by the value of the primary domain. What I'm not sure of is whether a primary domain can benefit from a valuable subdomain.

Yeah of course it can. A lot depends on it though.

Are you linking to domain.com from sub.domain? If so, has sub.domain.com got good content and links?

I might be wrong, and I never look into things as trivial as this, but I don't think sub domains naturally pass or gain 'trust' to the primary domain as well as sub folders and pages. They are treated as more of a seperate entity, like a seperate domain.

Thank you. That makes perfect sense to me and is exactly the type of response I was looking for.

That subdomains are treated as a separate entity by the SEs from the main domain I knew but it seemed to me that there should be a way to 'share the wealth' between them. I don't know why the cross-linking strategy didn't immediately occur to me. It's so obvious.

The project I'm involved in is building a subdomain property with good intrinsic value but to use it to enhance the value of the main property which already has good value of its own.

Hi Paul,

Google treats subdomains exactly the same as sub folders.

yes the subdoamins really get help from main domain.........also make sure that the subdomain for your website contain text as such not using

www. mysite.com/2132asdsd.htm instead using text for what the page is about like www. mysite.com/ intresting-features-about-life.htm wil provide you with better results and visitors........try it will sure help you
