Prevent Type 2 Diabetes [adwords help]

Hey guys!

So I am creating an informational product about preventing type 2 diabetes.

Currently I am releasing a free ebook about general nutrition/weight loss/performance gains and so on that I orginally created for my gym members. I am attempting to test demand by seeing how many people download, and leave there name and email address (this way I can just email them as the product is completely finished).

Heres the thing: to get that booster traffic I was using adwords. Except, it is INSANELY expensive. I used specific keywords such as "preventing type 2 diabetes" and "type 2 diabetes prevention diet" and the min. bid is 1$. As you can imagine this adds up quick.

Some are at 2.25!

What can I do about this? What are some ways to get "starter" traffic to your website that is specific to your niche like preventing type 2 diabetes is for me?
