Default Biggest Search Engines Force us to Backlink?

Isn't it true that we have to backlink if we want our sites to rank highly? What should we do besides SEO friendly content, titles, word of mouth? What if your product rocks but there is nothing to blog about? How are you supposed to blog on a static widget to keep the bots crawling?

Thanks for your insight.

Backlinking certainly helps!

What if the top 50 sites all had great SEO how would the search engines decide which ones are best and which ones to rank higher - backlinks!

There has to be some way for the search engines to determine which sites are worthy of a higher ranking.

As for having nothing to blog about - isn't there anything? Have you searched some article directories for articles on the niche to give you some idea of what you can write about?

Unfortunately, yes.

Who says you need to blog? Static sites are fine and I don't really believe the hype that you have to keep adding content to maintain rankings.

Now, if you want to keep adding fresh content. Let's say you have a site for the Super Widget. You can have a static sales home page and run a developers blog to keep your users updated on your product. Throw in a twitter widget or an RSS feed, both will keep fresh content on your site.

They will always continue to crawl, the crawl rate is based on a number of things. Authority of site, regular updates etc... but, even if the bots aren't crawling very often it's not going to kill your rankings.

Other factors such as backlinks will also increase the number of bot hits you are getting since they are crawling those sites which lead to yours.

Am I speaking out of my ***? I have a couple of blogs with around 10 posts that I haven't touched in over a year and they still rank just fine, get traffic and make sales. So what I've told you are my conclusions.

Synthesize me, And reboot, I need to start again, I need to make it different

I like to think that if you are doing the right things, people will love your site and backlinks will happen naturally. That is certainly the case with my larger sites. I would have a tough time trying to create links faster than their natural creation by others.

Thanks for your insight.

No one is forcing you to do anything.

You only have to do what YOU want to do.

If you want to rank well in Google, you need back links.

If you want to rank well in Bing or Yahoo, you simply need to make sure your on-site content is set up well.

But consider this...

If you are not making back links to your website, how do you expect anyone else to find you, without using the search engines?

I get +20k visitors a month to my main website. Only 45% of that traffic comes from search engines.

Where do the other 55% or 11,000+ unique visitors come from each month?

Where else but from many of the +50k links to my website.

If you want traffic you will build back links -- even if the search engines ignored back links.

Are these links coming from unique domains? The average internet user interacts for free. They don't build sites that would develop value link juice.

Since you are fairly new, you may not yet have the Thanks button available. When you get them, you only get 25 per day.

So, for a good position on search engines you need back links...
From my experience, it seems to me that the most valuable one-way links from sites of similar themes and high PR...
Even, only one such link can turn into a great job (for serp)...

If you are looking for a ride to the airport or any other occasion Palm Beach limo can be your choice.

Google relies heavily on back links.

Bing and Yahoo count back links as a very small part of the equation.

No, you are correct. I have no Thanks button yet. But I am sure I will soon.
So, thanks.

But generally speaking, I am on the Internet quite a bit and I have only put someones URL a couple of times, and never with Anchor text around it. It seems like Google would discount that more and give more credit to URLS on Genre-like sites that have surrounding text that matches...?

But as long as they do it this way I have to agree with the lot of you on the BLinks pay off.

Thanks.

You don't have to make blog posts every day.... or every week... or every month... It's all about the backlinks and the relevance google places on your site and your keywords.

I prefer working with static HTML/CSS websites b/c I'm good with HTML and can optimize all the code to my liking and specifications. I'm not that good with PHP, plus I just don't like blog platforms like Wordpress. I don't know why, this is just my opinion.

I have static HTML pages that haven't been changed or touched in MONTHS that rank on the first page for their keywords. Hell, they just got PR bumps today/yesterday with Google's recent update LOL!

You don't HAVE to keep coming up with new stuff and new content to entertain the bots. A single static HTML page that never changes could outrank blogs that were updated with the best material everyday if you put the time and effort into backlinking the HELL out of that page!

DO WORK! CHEERS!

In my opinion, you can not rank high for average or high competitive keywords without links pointing to your website. You should have them but you can make them from any quality web page. Including blogging, social bookmarking, article directories or any other website. So you only need quality backlinks and you get them from any relevant website whether its a blog or any other one.
