I put together seven websites within the past week that are largely designed as Adsense landing sites. There is good content on each site. Just today *every* site lost standing in Google searches - significant standing. One site went from #10 to #17, one from #17 to #30, #40 to #87 ... you get the picture. And these all happened on the same day. They had been relatively consistent for the past two weeks. So --- what the heck is going on? Why all the sites on the same day? Any ideas? Note: This drop in indexing placement seems to be related to keyword searches that are contained in my domain names. Most are EMD. Secondary search keywords don't seem to have been adversely affected. |

That is normal for new sites. They usually can take up to several months to establish themselves in the rankings. Quote:

OK, don't leave me hanging here. What would cause them to get de-listed? And by "interlink" what do you mean? I simply meant that I have text links in the content of site A linking to site B, etc.

From what I've read so far the sites havn't been de-listed, they have only lost SERP rank. Build a few high PR (page) backlinks with keyword anchor-text. |

Yes, site A links to site B and site B links back to site A.

I just deleted all links from all the Site A's to the SIte B's and vice versa, too. I also deleted all the trackbacks that WordPress created as comments, and also removed the BlogRoll links I had at each site linking back to the others. I guess I will just wait now and see what happens. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far. NOTE Actually, the site that fell over 40 index spots was NOT linked to any of the other sites, or vice versa.Should this site have been smacked for the interlinks on the six other sites? |

I understand what the Google dance is, I think, but I was not clear that interlinking my sites would be cause for penalty. Hopefully removing all the interlinking will solve the problem, and it won't take forever to get those old ranks back. |

I don't know if it was the result of removing all the interlinks or if it's just the Google Dance, but all my sites are back to the SERP they were before the big fall yesterday. In fact, a couple of them are now in better spots than before. That's a good thing. In any event, I should leave the interlinking alone between sites, especially those on the same server, correct? |

In the original post you say you put together the sites in the last week - and then say they've been consistent for two weeks? How can that be? When sites are first indexed they are tossed in the mix at google and may land near the top. That does not mean they are ranked near the top. A few days to a week or so after google indexes them they begin to move to where google believes they "rank". There is a common complaint in threads of new sites being "at the top" and then "punished" when in fact they were indexed following by being placing in the ranking afterward. If the sites have been up for a while - it's one thing. If they are new, it's something altogether different. kay |

| Anytime, you build links on a new site, the site will bounce around until you stop building links. If you build links on Mon. they may not get picked up by G until a few days later, unless they are high PR backlinks. It really doesn't do you any good to panic. From my own personal experience, it's all the low PR backlinks that make sites drop Google SERP rank, after the low PR backlinks are built. Focus on higher PR backlinks. |
