Default It's official. Twitter and Facebook have an impact on your website in the SERPs!

As of yesterday, both Bing and Google have confirmed that links shared through Twitter and Facebook have a direct impact on rankings (in addition to the positive second-order effects they may have on the link graph).

I've suspected this for a while, and actually seen results with Google to support it being true with Twitter.

I had one of my websites make it to page 1 of Google, Bing and Yahoo within a month and it was from making a few WSO on warrior forum. Plus a few posts here and there.

Great article and thanks for sharing it here. The confirmation makes it one more SEO practice that we know for sure will count.

Now where are my "Twitter is nofollow so don't even bother" people

EDIT: Now that it's official, facebook and twitter will have a hard time fighting the spam

I don't want your money right now so nothing to see here :)

I told a few people that Twitter links counted a while back and that's mostly what everyone was saying.

You just don't know until you test it.

When it comes to spam I'm sure plenty will continue to spam Twitter and Facebook, but I don't think that spam will filter through to effect the SERPs all that much. If you read the article Google & Bing are already doing a good job of figuring out real accounts from spam accounts (at least in theory).

Getting trusted followers on Twitter and Bing is not very easy for spammers, without having an autofollow system, which would ruin their follow/followers ratio and devalue their account, and for links to have a good push in the SERPs they would need to be tweeted by a variety of trusted accounts - unlikely to happen with spam.

That's not to say it won't be impossible for dirty SEOs to figure out a system to imitate semi-authority accounts.
