SEO and the traffic - How it begins to flow

Hello, I'm looking for some solid and realistic advice about the situation i find myself.

My website is currently around five months old, happy with the general layout after tweaking and have began to optimise the website slowly.

All the usual link building things and stuff.

Now i'm starting to get a few long tails each day, around 25 uniques but nothing heavy as of yet, especially nothing related to my main terms.

Can someone pass advice as to what i can add to my campaign and i was wondering how the traffic flow starts.

I know i can't go from 25 uniques to 500 daily uniques over night, therefore, is the process gradual and does it start low, like in a few months will it be 50 uniques a day and so on.

Please pass advice on how the traffic begins to flow in repsonse to SEO.
