Default Okkkkk...This is weird as well as frustrating..

Hey guys

Just looking for some feedback.

I have a site that continually ranks on the number one spot on first page for exactly 2-3 days, then all of a sudden it goes back to the top of page 2.

This pattern has been happening for months now, with me getting the top spot for 2-3 days then being sent to the top of page 2. Not only is it frustrating but it leaves me wondering if there is perhaps something else wrong with my site.

Domain is 8-9 months old, I ranked fairly quickly within the first 2 months hitting the top spot on the 3rd month. Now though this pattern of going from one to top of page 2 is driving me crazy.

Competition is average but there are a lot of sites on first page targeting this keyword in the run up to christmas. Having well over 600 backlinks, and the first page littered with page rank 0 domains as well as me having the exact keyword in domain it is very strange.

Now I know many of you are gonna say sandbox etc etc, but I don't believe in the crap. It just strikes me as strange as this dancing is happening on a continued basis as if someone is perhaps reporting my site once it hits the top spot causing me to go to the top of page 2. 11 spot decrease consistently is a joke...

Any ideas?

Much appreciated

I don't think anyone will have a definitive answer for you. Google acts weird like this sometimes, and there are thousands of reasons why this might be happening.

Maybe an important backlink goes from active to inactive every once in a while...? Aside from this, not much I can tell ya'. All I can say is keep building links and weird things like this tend to subside.

Well first off, I commend you for not believing in the imaginary sandbox. However, I don't think this has anything to do with someone reporting you. What is more likely is any of the 3 things below:

1.) Your competitors are continuing to build links just like you and they are landing some powerful links which is constantly shuffling the rankings. Remember, your site does not exist in a vacuum, and all of your competitors are probably building links as well.

2.) If your site is relying on things like forum profiles or blog comments, you page could be bouncing around because profiles are getting deleted and blog comments removed. If this happens, it would only be natural for Google to adjust your ranking after recognizing the loss of links.

3.) Google is known to shuffle things randomly. It happens to everyone. The best way to combat this is to build more quality backlinks. The more and better links you get, the less likely your page will be to bounce around. A couple really strong links should be all it takes to hold your page right where you want it.

thanks Brandon for the response.

Your absolutely right, it's just really weird. I have never had this problem with all my other sites and I have over 200 of them varying from clickbank types, adsense, cpa etc.

It would make sense if it were a ranking drop due to seo not being up to scratch, but from 1st position to being put on top of page 2 ALL THE TIME, once a month, on a consistent basis for over 4 months is a joke. Damm you google

Cheers for the response Jacob. I guess time and hard work will prevail :-) Everyday I learn something new, even after over a year of building and promoting.

Many thanks Guys
