Tracking Organic and PPC Clicks Separately

I just started using contextual and PPC advertising for a site, but do not know how to track their impressions/clicks separately.

I could create a PPC conversion tracking ID, however, I do not understand how to track only the PPC CTR.

Would I be better off generating separate page for PPC from my main organic search pages?

Well, it depends on the PPC service you're using.

I would recommend installing AWstats (free, open-source, linux/unix, perl based) as an internal tool for analysis of the traffic to all your pages.

It's far more comprehensive than Analytics and can easily differentiate your traffic sources in detail, not to mention give you more statistical information and pretty graphs than you can handle!

Webalizer is nice too, although not as pretty.

So AWstats will differentiate organic and PPC clicks per keyword?

I certainly could use Adwords or Bing/Yahoo's conversions ID's, however, there's no means of differentiating the clicks in my present analytics client (piwik).

Well, I'm not really a PPC pro, so I can't say I'm entirely sure.

What I do know is that AWstats will give you the exact URL of every referrer that feeds hits your way..

As far as concretely differentiating whether or not that's from a PPC ad. Now that I think about it some more, this may require some tricky programming..

Why aren't you using the conversion/tracking javascript again?

Its an Amazon affiliate site, and though I could use separate ID's, the problem is still in differentiating clicks and the relationship to the conversions.

Since this is most likely a common scenario, someone on WF must handle this properly...what do you use?

for ppc I really like to use hippojaw or you can use prosper202 they might of changed their name to tracker 202.

Sorry forgot to mention those make them really easy to separate ppc and other traffic and it allows you to track to the keyword/click what is converting.

You can use the custom URL builder (by Google) to make your ads destination URL's a little more easy to pick out of a crowd too.
