Meaning of Google Algorithm

I want to know the meaning of Google Algorithm. If possible then provide me effective tutorial or any material from which I can understand it well.

Hi,

Do you mean the PageRank algorithm? This was published as an academic paper many years ago (you can find it online by googling for "brin page pagerank").

But Google are known to have changed and tweaked the algorithm a lot since then to deal with the way people have tried to take advantage of the way it counts and evaluates links and backlinks - so much so that it probably bears little resemblance to the original algorithm. In any case. the algorithm was never a key factor in Google's success - that was mainly due to their massive use of commodity hardware to extend their reach beyond their competitors.

Google have different algorithms for ranking the site you can search this on Google by typing Google webmaster guidelines.

Google Algorithm for what? Pagerank - look up the Internet for the original paper by Page and Brin. SERP - that's not public, but look and read around this forum to sense what usually happens.

Google or any other search engine doesn't publish their algorithm never because in this case the results will be really useless as all webmasters use their algorithms for promoting their websites and Google can't understand the exact value of these websites and then searchers will be disappointed from search results and they should select another search engine

Exact "Google Algorithm" information is not available in public domain. In a way you can say google algorithm as a kind of formula that is used to obtain the best results for a search and I don't think that anyone will be knowing the google algorithm , even one who might be working for google would be not knowing too.

To which the answer is 42.

An algorithm is simply the procedure, the instructions to follow to accomplish a task. The term is used predominantly when talking about a computer program. Google has many programs and thus algorithms (or algo for short) so you have to specify which program (software) you're talking about.
