I have just bought a hyphenated .co.uk domain, e.g solar-energy.co.uk, but the non hyphenated version solarenergy.co.uk is already on the front page of google in the top 3 results. The thing is their site is garbage and they have very few backlinks - it really shouldn't take too much work to knock them about. I was just wondering if you think this would be a problem with the search engines, Legally (they could try and grab the domain) - but then again it is a generic phrase, so that would probably be quite difficult. I know i could have gotten another name - but this is a well paying niche and these keywords are superb (over 10,000 searches per day) - also the seller let it go cheap so i couldn't pass it up. I'm not to interested in it affecting re-sale value either. Interested to hear your opinions. |

They can't just grab your domain. Hyphen has nothing to do with rankings. You cannot judge a book by its cover. Sites are ranked #1 for a variety of reasons. You never know how your ranking will turn out. You never know what you will get for clicks. There are a lot of "ifs." Just do it or don't do it. Take the challenge or not. The choice is yours. Paul |
