I am considering using a Squidoo lense but never have. I need to advertise a site. Any comments? Thanks Jim Home Power Generation - Assessment of Home Power Generation Products. |

Squidoo lens works well. I've made a few hundreds just by ppc alone and sold a few products on them. I even have some for sale.

I wouldn't agonise over it too much. You can get one together in half an hour, using your main site content as a basis, and though it seems to me that Google doesn't quite go as crazy over Squidoo lenses as it used to (takes days to get indexed sometimes), there is no possible harm that I have heard of in making a lens and linking to your site from it.

I use Squidoo to create backlinks to my site - Squidoo lenses rank reasonably well and get indexed reasonably fast, so it certainly doesn't hurt to use them.

I use Squidoo lenses alot for getting good backlink and little (but quite good) traffic. I think they are worth of time. You just need to know little about how to little optimize it to rank good... Most important thing is Onpage SEO (good title, tags (add many as you possible think) and of course content) and second important thing is that your lens have got plenty of "Likes" and comments in guestbook. Don't forget to add poll in your lens and also some pictures. That will certainly improve ranking of your lens. |

| Out of all the web 2.0 sites I use I find that Squidoo ranks the worst, I haven't had any success and I have tried making BIG lenses with a lot of information. Maybe I am doing it wrong? It seems other sites that take less work still rank much easier and drive more traffic.

They can definitely be worth the relatively short amount of time it takes to create one. I have one that hasn't been touched in at least a year but it still has a PR3 and brings me in some affiliate sales every once in a while.

How about hub pages? Are they better or similar to lenses?

You all do realize that all the answers on this thread are/will be different because this is an extremely relative question, right? To those who say it isn't beneficial, have you done proper research prior to writing a lens? I outrank Squidoo lenses with PR4 websites. Why? Because I do research, and I find gaps in niches that haven't even been addressed by Web 2.0 sites that have been around for years and are amongst some of the highest ranked websites in the world. If you do it wrong, of course it won't be beneficial. |

Quite similar. Squidoo has some limitation of what contant can you upload but Hubs little less. But overall they both give same result ... |

The results aren't, and won't be, the "same". They are both entirely different platforms, with entirely different business models, offerings, incentivizes, and ways in which their sites can be utilized from a marketing standpoint. When you say "same results", what do you mean? Traffic? Revenue? They DO have "similar" authority, but they aren't the same. In fact, even the highest ranked Web 2.0 property, much like a vulnerable spot in a defence, can be penetrated by a much lower PR website. | |

Social media platforms like squidoo can be quite useful, if used with a definite purpose in mind. What is it that you want to create a lens for - for SEO, or for traffic? If SEO is the main goal, then its certainly worth going for, & the effort you need to put in won't be huge. If traffic, then you will need to work a bit harder. If you want both, then you will need to decide what type of traffic you want, & work accordingly, at the same time taking into account SEO aspects like LSE, keyword density, etc. Hope that helps |

A backlink is a backlink. Make a quick squidoo lens by all means with reworked content but I wouldn't expect anything other than a backlink. You will waste time if you agonise over the lens too much. I have made them with loving care in the past with loads of good, solid 100% original content which I hadn't posted anywhere else, and made sure they were optimized, indexed and even backlinked from articles on EZA and other high PR sites. All a waste of time as they brought minimal traffic. So these days I don't bother and just make a quickie for the link. |

Yes, I just use Squidoo for backlinks now. The platform inherently lends itself to complexity, with the tons of near-worthless modules available. A newbie could be quite intimidated when there are really only 3-5 modules that are even necessary. In that respect, I do think they should remove some of those module options. Quote:

Pros: Squidoo lenses are quick to build, easy, free, create backlinks, 'loved' by Google, and can possibly bring you some income. Cons: might be removed by Squidoo? possibly not liked by Google? I would go with making the Squidoo lens as a part of your advertising\backlink strategy. Best of luck to you! |
