I myself write articles and submit them to some article directories. Submit my pages to social bookmarking sites. Submit my website to some quality directories and also i use press releasing and hub pages for optimizing my website. Usually all or even doing some of these, works but you should note that its very better that you get backlinks from quality websites. In this case it can help you a lot and you reach your purpose.
