And I've found that PageRank and SERP ranking are correlated, but not by very much. Usually correlations between 0.10 and 0.20, which is pretty low. What you want is targeted anchor text from high PR pages. High PageRank by itself is useless.

PRs don't count that much any more. Bottom line is traffic and conversions.

This is one of the worst opinions that I see floating around, nothing to do with this specific post, but unfortunately most of the people portraying this are myopic. Maybe, they are "Guru"s? A good PR is wine, and a good PR of an aged domain is vintage wine. It is the key to trust. I won't go into long-chained logical arguments. I would rather be very happy to understand from anyone why Amazon, Nextag, Wikipedia and the likes rank for their inner pages like hot cakes without much backlinks in the organic searches. Traffic and conversion are no doubt two of the most important factors for the bottom line, I have absolutely no disagreement on that. But it does not and can not stop at that. Conversion is a different ballgame, nothing to do with PR, but a good PR with other favorable factors can give you no-money-cost traffic like anything. |

1. Invest $1. Cut you backlinking by 50%+. Click here. Seduce Google. 2. Find tons of high-commission easy in less than a minute here. 3. War Room release on off-page SEO: Gege Robohop -"Incredible", say Warriors 4. Mindset matters. Look at my last year - nothing to do with IM.

Don't be overly concerned with what your own page rank is. Its the links going to your site that matter. If you have a relevant link from a PR6 page to your site that can move you up the search engine rankings. The higher you are in the search rankings the more visitors or traffic you will get. By relevant I mean if you're trying to rank high for the keyword "tomatoes" and you get a text link "tomatoes" from a PR6 site then you will rank higher for that keyword. When you check out competitors and look at their back links quite often you find most of their links are N/A and quite often only a handful of links from PR2 or PR4 pages for example. Link juice can really power a website... think of it as gasoline driving the keywords of your site up the rankings.

Thank you for the replys. so take a site like webhostinggeeks.com, old domain, massive massive linkbacks. pr6 site. How did he get ranked first spot for every keyword? He is 1# in webhosting traffic on the web. He didnt link every keyword to a pr6 site did he? How would someone ever ever dream of competing with them ? even to be on the bottom of the first page etc ,

Take these numbers simply as a guideline but using SEOquake it shows he has 833,694 links coming in. PR7 - 3 links PR6 - 2 links PR5 - 14 links PR4 - 20 links PR3 - 24 links PR2 - 7 links PR1 - 1 links PR0 - 9 links All the rest are N/A links which means only 80 incoming links have a PR. They obviously count since a lot of people are linking to him but there is no doubt that the link juice coming in from those 80 PR sites says to Google he must be highly rated by other people. Google considers incoming links as a vote for your site. There can be a lot of other factors that Google can look at as well such as the age of his domain as already mentioned [which is why people go out and buy an aged domain with incoming links and PR to start a site] but this is the type of research that can give you an idea of what your competition is doing and what you have to do to match them. This is one of the reasons some people get into buying relevant high PR links because the return on investment can be very good when you get pushed to the top of the search engine results. Of course, if Google finds out you buy links your site goes down the toilet... |

If you're doing a sniper site then page rank? Who cares? But if your building out a real web property that will eventually have 100's or 1,000's of pages then yes PR does count and WILL lead to better traffic and conversions on all the new pages you put up. I will guarantee you that my new pages go to the top of the serps faster on my higher pr properties than my pr 0's. Anyone can fire back and dispute that, but I have tested it and proven it in a very formulaic environment. Patrick
