I have a dot info and will use it for music lessons over skype. I also plan to have many other learning experiences on this site. My question is can I have it on the first page for the keywords I want. How will google and the rest of the SE's handle this? Does it matter that it is a .info? I am a noob. All answers will be appreciated. Thank you. |

Yes, it will be indexed. No, it will not be as powerful as the same phrase in .com (all things being equal) (apparently) |

Google employees indicated on numerous occasions that they don't discriminate TLDs unless dealing with region specific (ex. .co.uk)

Domain extensions don't affect SEO at all. The reason you see comparatively few .info's ranking right at the top of Google is that many marketers wrongly imagine that they might, and for this reason, when they have a site they want to rank well, they choose not to use a .info domain-name for it. It's really not evidence that they don't rank well at all - it just looks like that at first glance. There may be other reasons why one might not want to use a .info, but SEO isn't one of them, and people who imagine that "they don't rank as highly/easily because they're seen by Google as cheap/spammy domains" are living on another planet. It's a difficult myth to overturn. Matt Cutts, of Google, has tried very hard. He's explained it in writing, on video, on their blog, all over the place, and he's invited people to quote him on it. But there are still people (even here - a few of them) who believe that .info domains won't rank as well. |

It is always best to use .com as it is more generic and universal. Most times, most people might forget your site is a .info kind. They type it into the browser and get another, they email you to tell you that your site does not exist. |

Thank you all for the info. I typed pr rank checker and .info was the first. Thanks again All the information you gave was awsome. I am not worried about getting this to the first page now. Alexa smith you are beautiful inside and out. Your education on IM is at a very high level. I would like to know if this is by education (if so where did you learn) or trial and error or both. Thank fellow warriors and happy holidays. |
