Default HELP! Buying domains with over 1 million exact match keywords?

Hey warriors,

I have come across some domain names that have over 1 million exact match searches. Is this something I should pick up any time I come across one? If not then what should the search numbers be?

I found six so far.
I just found 2 at 30million exact match searches a month.

Oh and can exact matches have "-" in them?

Sorry for being antsy. I just hate it when you have something and you lose it. I have a fear of losing them after I searched for them.

On the other side, buying a website just because it has exact match key words could be a waste of money. And I don't want to waste anymore.

Hi willN,

Is it sporatic-blubbering.com?

If so, I can't recommend buying it in all honesty. Your market research may be flawed.

LOL no, it is not sporatic-blubbering.com.

Though now that I look at this thread, it seems I am doing just that. Yay for me, I just became the annoying guy I hate so much when I surf the forums.

I would just like an honest answer on my question. I do not know what value to place on exact match domain names.

Hi willN,

(being serious now)

The answer I will give you applies to a myriad of other questions asked in this type of forum.

Even if you got 1000 answers here, you will still be no wiser. The only way for you to have the knowledge required to be able to make this sort of investment with confidence is for you to work it out for yourself.

How much is a domain? What effect will it have on your life/plans/business if it turns out to be a mistake?

The exact match domain market is rampant with informed buyers using high-tech software. Some of these guys own literally millions of parked domains.

My experiences have shown that it is very rare to find a high traffic exact match domain just waiting to be scooped up by the lucky, uninformed punter.

Whenever I come across a domain and at first I cannot understand why it has not been snapped up, further research nearly always proves that there is a damned good reason why it was missed - IE - it usually has a fatal flaw.

In short, in all seriousness (now), I wouldn't bother. Yes, it is most likely the hyphen factor that is the reason why the domain has not been snapped up BUT if the traffic is really that high, then it is more than likely that there are other reasons too.

That is the best I can do based on the tiny amount of information offered here. If you decide not to buy it, perhaps you would want to share the names so that we can perhaps give the other reasons, if not, no sweat.

The important part is the first part - IE - you won't learn much asking here, due to the type of question and amount of information offered. It's one of those 'how long is a piece of string' questions.

Also, you might need to be more specific about '30 million exact matches per month.' What exactly do you mean? Where is this information sourced from? Very often, flawed research stats is the problem. It could be in this case as I have no idea what you mean and where you got this info from.

Does this help you a bit more?

Indeed it does help Here is the list of domains I just bought. One of them is one I need for a company. The others just had high keyword searches on google.

The following are all .coms
XBOXELITEXBOXPRO
XBOXELITEXBOXPREMIUM
GAMESFORTHEXBOX
COOLOFDUTY
DRESSUPGAMESFORDOLLS

I realize the coolofduty is a typo but there were a ton of searches for it. I can develop these sites for these key words if it is worth it. If not no loss to me. Ill park em somewhere.

I didn't realize I was concentrating on console gaming so hard. This is what I get for posting late thinking about my kids presents lol.

Hi willN,

Ok the first three are due to trademark violation of Microsoft's xbox trademark.

The fourth one, I can't be sure, but I am guessing you are using Google external keyword tool for your search stats?

Again, I can't be sure but if you look deeper into it, I think there's a possibility that all is not as it seems. For example, click to the Google insights and you will see the information there seems to relate to other keywords with the word 'cool' in it, that relate to COD, but not the phrase in question.

(cool emblems, cool clan tags).

Yes I'm an MW2/black ops player.... Most of the kids who play the game and might be searching for COD phrases are pretty on the ball and are unlikely to spell it like this. It's more likely to be the parents who make this error. Yes, that could signal an opportunity, but this is not the kind of typo I personally would invest in.

Same for the last one. The keywords shown on insights have 'not enough search volume'.

I have noticed recently that Google's external keyword tool throws out some 'interesting' keyword data.

For example, has anyone else noticed how the phrase 'best rated' seems to have appeared for many exact match product names with high volume, yet there is low competition and good domains available? (IE no one has snapped them up.)

I can't be sure, but I would hazard a guess that it has something to do with Google scuppering the plans of people looking to short cut their way to the top of the SERPs with exact match domains (EMDs). It's exactly what I would do - confuse them and encourage them to waste money and time on pointless exercises. That's great for killing the motivation of the sort who look for short cuts. Then they have to look at a bunch of idle, useless domains cluttering up their accounts for a year.

The internet is awash with tutorials about buying EMDs, going to Google's external tool, then going to Godaddy's bulk checking tool then throwing nasty backlinks at them - yes, we've all tried it.

If the internet is awash with this, you can be sure Google is not in the dark either. So it makes sense that they tinker with the external tool to crush the system.

I presume the last two are hyphenated anyway?

The xbox ones I was just going to point to amazon for sales. The other xbox domains that were similar were taken and had landing pages pointing to one thing or another. I didn't realize copyright was an issue as far as domain names were concerned. I see alot of websites with brand names on them up and running well. I guess it is if the copyright holder minds?

They all had several million searches. I used adwords keyowrd tool to see. Maybe that was wrong. Oh well

This is a common error, due to the low barrier for entry into 'business' on the internet.

Nevertheless, it's much better to be the guy who does his homework than the one who gets nailed by a big corporation.

Yes, coming here and asking/learning is part of that homework. But not all advice here is accurate. Don't take my advice as gospel, it's my opinion.

The worst mistake is to take legal risks based on 'I see a lot of websites doing this' - that really won't stand up in court and it's pretty lame. Every time I turn on the TV news (not often) or read MSM newspaper (not often) I see people getting away with murder. Even the banks can commit daylight robbery and get bonuses for doing it.

It doesn't mean that little guy ExRat won't get hung, drawn and quartered if I try it.

I hope this helps.

no "dress up games for dolls" is not hyphenated. None of them are. That was my wifes idea. 1.5 million monthly searches it says on adwords.

For example
gamesfordress is available from go daddy. "games for dress" has 7,480,000 global searches a month on adwords' keyword research tool. Is this good?

Hi willN,

I see now - Godaddy tool was playing up.

I don't trust those Google stats. I think they relate to other keyword terms.

Check insights

Anyway, good luck with it and let us know what you find out.

You need to get away from this reliance on the keyword tool -

Quote:
gamesfordress
Who's going to search for that? Why would they?

It doesn't have to be complicated. I see exact match terms that are the wrong way around all of the time in the keyword tool. You just have to apply logic to it as well. If you apply the rigid principle that if it is in the tool with good stats, then it must be good - you will end up with some duff domains.

Let's go back up to post#6 -

Quote:

Regardless, best of luck to you. At least you're 'on the hunt'.

The competition for "dress up games" is crazy. I thought you might be on to a winner until I whipped out the tools to take a look.

give this tool a try. I actually prefer it over googles tool. I find it faster and easier to work with.

Hot Dress Up Games looks like it gets decent traffic, around 2k a day and is much easier to rank for. Sounds like an adult niche to me but all of the sites are kiddie sites. Requires more research but at first glance it could be a winner.

Synthesize me, And reboot, I need to start again, I need to make it different

I tried the tool, and its ok. But to be honest I do not like it very much. Thanks though!

Wow, some great info here. Seems like someone swiped up those domains already. Any idea of what will happen if those big companies came after you?

I always had the impression that all I had to do was return the domain to them? Any stories?

Bro, you realize none of your domains are even close to a million exact searches?

XBOX ELITE XBOX PREMIUM - <10
GAMES FOR THE XBOX - 170
COOL OF DUTY - 880
DRESS UP GAMES FOR DOLLS - 58
XBOX ELITE XBOX PRO - Google doesn't even have any data for this keyword

When something seems to good to be true, you should double check.

It might help that he has the exact domain name. I've seen EMDs rank for crazily competitive terms

As to your other 3 terms as someone already mentioned copy right issues. I would generally try to avoid them completely. Some take their chances but I rather not face a cease or desist letter.

I know this is an older thread of mine. But I thought I would respond as to what happened. The domains were not "exact match" they were "broad". I learned this afterwords, and then was away for a while. I would like to thank all who helped me here. I did learn quiet a bit about Domains because I bought these. It was well worth the learning experience.
