Lately, instead of spending forever commenting on blogs and posting on forums I'm not interested in, I've been researching my competitor's top backlinks for relevant blogs and websites, emailing the owner and seeing if they would feature my clients' site. I would imagine that this wouldn't be much of an option for you Adsense guys, but I do local SEO, so a lot of people are totally cool about this. Often a time, I'll get a blog or something, they'll make a post about me, and this way, I get onto their index page (temporarily). Anyways, I've been getting quite a few backlinks this way lately, and it seems to me that it's literally 100 times more effective than forums and blogs, in terms of SERP effect. Anyone care to correct me / reenforce my notion? I do not have any concrete evidence to support this, just the way it seems, with my rankings right now and my memory of when I toned it down on the blogs/forums a little while ago. |

Seems like a great strategy to me. Copying the competitors backlinks, only better ![]() I can't see why it wouldn't work to be honest as long you're getting a decent amount of quality links for the time spent. Cheers, Dave |

This is a great method whenever possible. Of course, it will NOT work everywhere but it should not be discounted just because it would not work in 100% of cases. It can be very effective for some keywords. Some of the really competitive niches have sites that use their own feeder sites for backlinks. They go the whole nine yards and host their feeder sites on different IPs and everything. I do this myself just so its impossible to copy all my backlinks and it can be very profitable. Again, a very good method for you when possible. |

Shhh. People still believe the only way to build links is to get sites with no Pr. If they all learn how to use compettive reesearch to find site owners that give real Pagerank powered backlinks there willb less for us. Worse if they figure out that Google's itself will lead them right to sites with high traffic as well. Don't ruin our little club Orvn | |
