Does a redirected domain get indexed? ... and a duplicate content question

Anybody can answer these questions for me, please?

1. Does a redirected domain get indexed by the search engines?



2. Which site does Google recognize, and give credit to if:

- I have a main site with lots of content, and I have a product on a page under this site.
i.e. site.com/productname

- and I have this same product under its own domain.
i.e. productname.com

This is duplicate content, isn't it? The two pages are identical.

Or, could I tell Google which one to recognize by including a follow tag in one, and a nofollow tag in the other page?

Edit: Yes, I know the duplicate content penalty is a myth. I am still wondering whether I can tell google which page to recognize.

The best way to get a redirect to get listed is to build a blank optimized index page with a javascript redirect such as:

window.location = "your website here/"
//-->
</script>

It has to have some content and be published on the web.
A javascipt may do it.

But if the domain has never had anything on it, a 301 would only be
good for type-in traffic from a print ad or something. Domains do not
get indexed. Web pages do.

And if it had only a javascript, most likely it would only be "indexed" for the
domain. Quite useless.

That code isn't much good for the search engines, really the only thing it's good for is redirecting traffic.

The reason the javscript isn't any good for the search engines is, in order for the code to fire the page has to be loaded already (defeats the purpose already being loaded).

You need to do a server side 301 redirect, this way the page is redirected before it ever loads...

Frank Kern and Trey Smith had a piece of software that created "ghost" pages with content on them that the spiders would read but anyone clicking on the domain would get redirected to your affiliate link. It's definitely blackhat, and probably a year+ old by now, so Google may be on to it. You might do a search to find it quickly, or if you're really interested, I could look for it through my pile of stuff and come up with a name. Glad to help, but if it's too blackhat for you, I won't bother looking for the name of the script.

I did a Google search, and it turned up some threads here on the Warrior Forum, and a couple of other sites like BlueFart.com. It seems like there are at least two different things that are called BlieFart, and I don't think either of those was what you are mentioning.

I think, for now, the answers about the redirect will suffice. However, thanks for offering. If it turns out that I would want more info on BlueFart, I'll contact you. Thanks.

Edit: This is interesting. In my first sentence, I typed in a different domain than what shows on this post. When I clicked "submit" the domain name in my post changed automatically. This explains it (Read post #3 here): What the Hell is Blue Fart??

Well, this is not directly related to my original question, but the name BlueFart spurred this little detour from the post.
