Default How to link to a site google hates and not know it.

Pretty sure I to got deranked by linking to a spammy site. I run an auto blog or two and am ranking for a competitive term and use wordpress blog plugins that add articles on autopilot.

Of course they have their links in the resource box and since its on auto pilot they were added to my site automatically. As soon as I deleted all of the articles my ranking came back. Whether its a coincidence or not Its worth checking into as these are links you never see added to your site if you do autoblogging.

This is a real problem when using software (in this case a plugin) thast posts to your blogs automatically without allowing you the opportunity to review it prior to posting. Reviewing the content before posting does take a few moments initially but will save you much more time in the long run because you wont have to go back and continually review each post for quality.

Good luck!

I've tested this theory/myth on a number of sites. In one case, I installed a forum with open automatic approval registration. I then embedded footprints I knew spammers would be searching for to make sure they easily found the site and started posting their crappy content.

That site has nothing but spam on it; weight loss products, acai berry, cash gifting, get rich quick, gambling, porn, blah, blah, blah. There is no good content to speak of. To this date it is a PR 2 and passes some sweet link juice. In four years I've never had a site linked to it get de-indexed.

Moreover, in my personal BL network, I never look at or check my auto blogs. They churn out content and the BLs get indexed and cached, end of story.

What happened to your site is called a "Anecdotal Coincidence."

This is an interesting test...I've heard of others doing something like this (although not entirely made of spam). Tests like this are interesting to me simply because it goes to show (in some ways) how the search engines look at differnet kinds of sites with different types of content...very interesting!

Thanks for posting it.

So, you're saying bad neighborhoods is a myth?

Please explain what a bad neighborhood is? And while you're defining that please tell me how do porn sites get high PR rankings; rather easily I might add? According to myth, they are supposed to be bad neighborhoods, eh?

Take a look at this website and notice the PR of most of the sites on the list: Stupidness.com - Stupid Sites according to various myths, none of those sites should have any PR and many of them should be de-indexed.

Here is my thing, as a professional IMer, if there is software application, system, breach, loophole, strategy or tactic that can devalue or harm my IM business, which is my livelihood, I want to know about it, A.S.A.P.!

When IMers first started talking about being linked to bad neighborhoods and receiving other quote nefarious IBLs, I set about to determine, one way or the other if I should be concerned. That was the whole purpose of launching those sites to see if they would be de-indexed and to see of other sites linked to them would be de-indexed. It's been fours years and I'm still waiting.

Crew Chief, I had the same belief as you and I am glad you have actually done a test. There are millions of websites out there and if yours is the one that google de-indexed for whatever reason you are very unlucky. By the way, there still might be sites that have been banned because of dodgy practice like selling links and a lot of them. That might be the bad neighborhood, not the porn or gambling sites.
