Do you use cPanel? There's an addon domain option which allows you to set base directories. Alternatively, you may use SSH. |

You can never really separate the addon domains. If a search engine decides to show an alternative way of showing your addon, it will do it. I suspect that if you type addondomain.com/blah-blah.html into your browser, the page will still load. But that's not what search engines are required to show. If it does not load, then check your nameservers. Your host should have explained a lot more to you. There are 3 (or more) ways to view an addon domain. addondomain.com addondomain.maindomain.com maindomain.com/addondomain (I'm not 100% sure and I'm too lazy to look it up )The 3rd being what is showing up for you. I myself shy away from addon domains. I see no benefit. Paul |

Thanks for replying. It's an older hosting acct and these sites have been there for 5 years. there are 3 other sites as well and they all rank well for their terms respectively. I made no changes to the base directives. It is all of a sudden that google decides to show the URL for this site this specific way and for other terms the proper way. It was displaying properly the other day. Please tell me why would using an add-on domain or even a sub-domain be negative? I see 1000s of sites using well-ranked sub-domains. EDIT: Disregard the question: I found a boatload of negatives on using addon domains now. I'll fix for now with 301 redirect |
