Default Waste of time?

Here is a blog article: ileffe.dk/post/New-diagnosis.aspx

You see short article with hundreds of spammy comments with dofollow backlinks.

Is it waste of time (or money if you buy blog comments from service) to get backlinks from hundreds of similar blog articles?

About 2 months ago I bought 500 comments with backlinks and made more myself. I haven't seen any changes in my rankings.

I know it takes time but I checked also many other site's rankings (some comments are older then 1 year) and their backlinks (even three word not popular keyword) which are mainly from the same kind of blog comments and their rankings are mostly poor with their keywords in link text.

Any other opinions?

I mean if there are hundreds of links on the same page, Google maybe analyze those links are worthless.

Here is the deal. My initial thought was that those links would be worthless or potentially harmful, given that link juice is divided by the links on the page.

Then, I had a competitor in the weight loss industry shoot past me for many of our rankings. Their site did not deserve to outrank us but it appeared the anchor text from those links was kicking our ass.

That being said, those page are now 401's and the links are not indexed anymore. The competitor has slid back to where they previously were.

So, IMO they could potentially be useful for short term rankings for specific anchor text but not a long term results. I also feel like Google is going to be coming out with an update that penalizes links of that nature.

You're not going to get penalized from any backlinking you do. Google has publicly stated that they will not penalize a site based on any type of backlinks pointing to it.

But what Google can do is de-value certain types of links from really having any kind of a ranking benefit to your site which would make those links pointless in getting.

Google can say what they want. They can say nofollow-links do not affect in your position in SERPS but they do.

I think the only way to get answers is to test things, and this takes some time.

They did not say that. They said, they don't judge a site by backlinks alone. To be more specific, a mature site with a strong link network is less likely to be penalized. That way, you can't just point a bunch of crappy links at a competitor. Obviously, we don't "know" for sure but that is the notion currently accepted by most within the community and through my own experience.

Google has said on numerous occasions that they don't penalize sites based on backlinks as the webmaster doesn't have control of where those backlinks are created. Ie. they can be created by others and be pointed to someone else's site.

Five minutes of research online will tell you that.

Otherwise people could get their competitors in trouble with google just by linking them to bad neighborhoods.

This conversation has also been talked about to death at this forum as well.

All backlinks have value... just some have more than others.
