Best SEO Techniques For Forums

Hey all,
I'm a fitness guy and am adding a forum to my blog to generate more content, internal links and back links? Any techniques or tricks that you guys can share for maximizing my posts and the posts of my members for SEO benefits?

What about starting it up? I obviously don't want to have a blank forum on day one since it will discourage people from joining. Any tips?

Forums can be really difficult to get going unless you've got a bunch of people to start posting to begin with.

My suggestion is: If you have a mailing list of subscribers already, encourage them to go to the forum and participate, maybe you could hold a competition or offer some other incentive to get things moving.

You can host a monthly competition on who can contribute the most posts and reward the winner with free membership for the next month.

Awesome tips so far guys, thanks. Is there anything that I need to do in terms of posts to improve SEO?

Is there a way to use RSS feeds to get contents or posts?

Anyone know a service, maybe like a M-Terk to get people to post?

You could submit your forum to some forum directories. I would also consider hiring some posters. Also have your moderators make posts. And of course you should have a link to your blog and forum in your signature - use a text link for the keywords you want to target.

	Do what I do: Travel to & party in the coolest parts of Europe, and pay for it all by making money with your laptop!!
