I have been building back link to my site using http://www. but discovered recently that my site is actually registered as abcd dot com instead of http://www.abcd dot com. I currently have my site on the first, second, third page of the major searches and planning on doing massive link building. Should i concentrate on the http://www. or simply switch to abcd dot com? |

are you redirecting your www. to your non www? If not, here's to hoping you do it fast. If you're using wordpress there's a plugin for it, find it here. Once you redirect to the non www you can slam links at both with no hiccups.

If you are redirecting the www version to the non-www version then there is no problem

Normally, they go to the same page. Sometimes there's a missed tweak by the host. Rare. As long as you build links to one version or the other, depending on which one loads, that takes care of it. There's nothing really scary about it. It may look like two website to google, but they choose one over the other depending on how you build links. The best practice is to redirect one to the other and you are set. But there is no penalty if you don't. Google chooses one over the other, most likely the one you prefer when link building. For some reason, people hear "two different websites" and freak out. Not needed. FYI: nobody registers the www. You only register the domain.com by itself. Then it's up to your host's server config. Tehnically, www is a subdomain. If you care about type-in traffic, your page needs to load no matter if people type domain.com, www. domain.com, or http ://www.domain.com, or any variation. Paul |

I believe that I read somewhere that this does make a difference.. Although they are both the same site i think the backlinks will only be attributed to the URL that you use.. ie backlinks for mysite.com will not help www.mysite.com in the rankings... Backlinks: With or without "www"? |

Google webmaster tools is the place to pick your preferred display with or without www . They will at least count all variants as the same when u select it. Don't stress out and just pick one for your link building in my opinion.

It depends. I suggest optimizing whatever is showing up in the primary SE, just to be on the safe side. |

I faced the same problem from a while, I asked an SEO expert and I've been told that there is no defference between backlinks with www. or without it. I hope so.

Point the new links you create to the address that has the best link profile so far.

Alright thanks everybody. I am currently taking to my hosting company about this. From what i see, Google is the only site that shows my http://www. while Yahoo and MSN show abcd dot com. When i run both sites on the search engine i see thousands of links to http://www. and about six inbound links to abcd dot com. Thanks you all. |
