Default Duplicate Content Experiment

I've heard too many mixed things about duplicate content.

I decided to stop listening to others and finding out the truth for myself.

I found a blog I started a while ago but never fully finished (I'm sure I'm the only person in the world whose done this...)

I'm gonna run a little experiment, posting only duplicate content from article directories and such. I'm going to change article titles to include the keywords I'm targeting. Also I'm going to add a short paragraph with my KW above and below the content.

My blog isn't ranking for my main KWs right now. I get a bunch of long tail keyword searches and about 20-50 uniques/day and have about dozen backlinks.

I'll report back soon!

That may be duplicacy in your blog. To prevent duplicacy you need to at canonical tag in your blog. After that you can use duplicate content.

Duplicate content is a myth. It has been debunked already by countless tests, some conducted by other WF members.

Can you elaborate? Is this just redirecting the non www. version to the www version of the url?

Do a Press Release. Press Releases are dup content and Google indexes them faster than any other type of link. If Google didnt like dup content then Press Releases would not work.

As long as you get it to rank higher, you can. No reason to reinvent the wheel.
Sites like EZA were created to provide people with free, duplicate content.
People regularly spin articles, or steal them.

The duplicate content "penalty" comes in when you have the same stuff,
published multiple times, on one site, for the sole purpose of redirecting and
fooling search engines.

The killer of these myths is lyrics sites and news sites. They all have the same
thing. Example, 100 sites publishing the same AP or Reuters news article.
Whoever google chooses to show first wins...but all results give the same
dang article, word for word.

But the caveat is that your site must have backlinks, a following, trustworthiness,
and most of all, authority. So be sure and build that at the same time, or the
experiment will not give you any valid results.

Do a search for something in the news now. dead birds falling from the sky
The results are a collection of the same stories published across the country.

I'd appreciate an update on your experiment Tony. Google says this in their blog today "This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful."

I do not know how to make press lease. Is that you are referring to RSS feeds? Please explain for i want to know about back links through press release.

This will not work. Duplicate content is the biggest issue in spamming.

As far as I know Google considers content duplicate when it repeats on the same site

A press release is when you write a release for the press (short article like text, with your URL and your phone number if the press wants to contact you).

The thing is that when you write such releases they are syndicated on many sites automatically, and you get many dofollow links from it.

The text should be valuable, and not spammy. E.g. if your business expands, and makes a new office in a new city, you can write a press release about it and put in links to your own site.

The press release can be just about anything, as long as the grammar is OK, and it's not spammy looking.

If you really put an effort into it, then you can expect it getting picked up by the press, which would give you lots of links.

But enough about that. This thread is about duplicate content, and I asked Tony a question here.
