Default Google PR dancing back and forth?

Hello Warriors,

On some days my 5 month old sites are on the first page of Google then the next day they are back on page 5 or more.

Anyone know why this is happening?

First, that isnt PR, thats your rank in the SERPs (search engine result pages).

Yes that is normal. It could be that your results are getting served out of a different server cluster too.

5 page spreads is a little much. I have 20 position spreads all the time when new sites rank or sites rank for new phrases.

SERP - search engine result page

That kind of Google dance usually occur with pages that have inconsistent changes within the page or with blog's homepages where keyword densities change whenever there's an update on the content.

Approximately once a month, Google updates its index by recalculating the Page Ranks of each of the web pages they crawl. The period during the update is known as the Google Dance. Because of the nature of PageRank, the calculations need to be performed about 40 times and, because the index is so large, the calculations take several days to complete. During this period, the search results fluctuate, sometimes minute-by-minute. It is because of these that the term Google Dance was coined. This usually takes place some time during the last third of each month.

I think its natural, it happens all the time when i publish my new sites, some of them called this a google dance, this happens due to the chance of SERP, so dont worry

Google dance happens on new and less trustworthy sites. The big players in the market remain safe from these little changes. If you want to remain safe be a big player, but this takes a long time.Till then, enjoy the Google dance!

As "seoforu" explained in the previous post...

Usually when a newer site (<6 months) is indexed by one of the search engines, they tend to be somewhat cautious in their evaluation of the site, as it is not established, there is no background for it, no authority sites recommending it, or backlinks supporting it.

Usually the so called "google dance" occurs when you start promoting (creating backlinks) to this newer site, as google tries to rank, position, and determine the worthiness of the site. In most cases, 3-4 weeks is the maximum time you're site will be dancing.

I'm not sure if that is what your referring to...

How old is the website?
Have you been creating backlinks to it recently?
If so, how many daily/weekly?
Are you pinging these links?

All of my sites jump a few spots regularly, usually never beyond 1 page. They'll go from first page, to end of the second at most, usually for a few days at a time. If that is what your referring to, I wouldn't worry too much.

In my opinion, google doesn't just say, here's your rank, your #2, and you'll never move. Also, google's algorithm is constantly being updated, and is always changing, so nobody will ever nail it down 100%.

Do you remember months ago, when some people's site's dropped? and other site's climbed? for apparantely no reason at all?

Anyway, I'm done rambling, hope this helps, and good luck!

Nick

My site has been on Google first page and I keep doing the dance with Google too, I am starting to realise that it is quite normal!
