Default Would this be considered 'Black Hat' or a doorway page?

I was wondering if this method would be considered 'black hat' or as a 'doorway page'.

Basically I was thinking of making some exact match domains that would be easier to rank for certain keywords that get decent traffic.

I would use Word Press to write a good, informative article and link the page to my money site (which sells an actual product related to the articles)

The primary purpose would not be to get backlinks for my website, that's just a bonus.

The idea is that since an exact match domain is easier to rank for a specific keyword, it's a lot more bang for the buck in the short term than trying to get my actual money page up to #1.

So create the exact match domains with helpful informative articles for the best keywords then link to my money page and hopefully they buy something.

You can always analyse your competitors and see how they are getting the hits now. In other words look at the keywords you are targeting, see who comes where in Google and see what they do when you click their link - check their traffic in Adwords, and you will get a rough idea of whether there is value in the keyword rich domain (usually is) but depends on the numbers that you need.

I have reviewed my competitors backlinks in the past... it seems the ones who are ranking in the top 10 have created some sort of link network to get high in the search engines. One of them has like 20,000-30,000 backlinks depending on how you check it.

Luckily I've managed to get a few sales so far through long tail keywords that I never thought anyone would even type in.

I would suggest that your WP pages be sites with multiple pages (4-5 min) instead of just multiple posts on a one page blog.

you're walking a very fine line with a one-page gateway according to google's TOS.

Is it really any different as than Article Marketing though (google policy wise...)?

The only difference I can really see is when you post on a site such as Ezinearticles they are hosting it, and it's not an exact match domain.

It still is kind of a gateway to your money site.

Google gives extra weight to exact match domains so it's worth taking a
little extra time to give them what they want. Always include an "about page" and a "contact page". Google has already reduced the value of these types of domains, but if you are willing to do the work to create a little more relevant content you are much more likely to avoid getting slapped. Another "trick" that you can use is to use the same basic color scheme etc. on this sub-site and include various "catagory links" that lead to your sales page and relevant variations of your sales page.

That will be fine if you build out a larger site, 5+ pages.

Don't simply post a single page site and hope you'll get ranked for these keywords.

Overall though, I'd take a close look at your strategy and see if it isn't more worthwhile to throw that content on your own site and dedicate your resources at your main money website. Tons of 5+ page mini sites take time and effort, and linking campaigns to rank well. Imagine allocating those same resources to one or two main money sites? Much more beneficial in the long run.

It's ok IMHO. Black Hat can not externally be done. If it is was possible, most competitors had done that to their competitors

A doorway page is considered to have no or little good content. If you are providing the user with what they're looking for, then it's not a (black*hat) doorway page (though it may very well be a "doorway" to your main site).
