Hey gang, am doing some preliminary keyword research and these look backwards: Without quotation marks is supposed to be total # of pages with that phrase With quotation markes is supposed to be the total number of individual sites competing for said phrase... is that correct? if so then why are these backwards?? Videographer without quotation marks videographer - Google Search Videographer WITH quotation marks "videographer" - Google Search umm either I've got the behavior figured out wrong or something else is up any insight on this guys n gals? |

I'm not sure about your specific example, but without quotes shows you sites that have the keywords on the page in any order. It is also possible that a search without quotes could return sites that are related the to the topic but don't actually have the keywords on their page. A search with quotes is for sites that have your keywords in that specific order. Not sure about the discrepancy in your example though. Definitely kind of odd. |

Putting quotes around a single word, doesn't really do anything useful. You put quotes around a phrase. |

Either way, it triggers the google algo to "think" inside your head as to what you are really searching for. Google searches are sometimes results that do not have the words displayed, simply because google thinks it knows what normal people have wanted in the past. Using quotes or not using quotes will most likely put a different spin on things, even though we cannot fathom how. Many times google splits apart words, many times they don't. They often give a : showing results for a,b,c or do you really want AB,C? When you say you like coffee hot, do you mean hot, HOT or hot-hot? As far as people using quotes for one word, as I said, we cannot fathom why or what happens. Just like I cannot fathom why facebook is the #1 searched for term. Why? Makes no sense to me. Can't people just go to facebook.com? I guess not. The search world is a strange place. Aren't you glad we have google to guide lost souls? ![]() Paul |
