Default Do you pick a product first or a keyword first?

When planning a site that you want to rank for in google do you first pick a keyword and try to match affiliate products to it? Or do you find a product first and then find keywords that you think you can rank for? I have heard of different methods and was just wondering what you warriors think about it.

I find the product first and then do a KW analysis. Always start w/ long tailed KWs

Hey thanks margo...

One question I have is what if you find a product that you really want to promote and you can't find any good keywords that you can rank for? Do you just look for a different product?

Pick the product first and then analysis the keyword related to that product.

I always go for the product first. It's no good having keywords if you can't find something to sell with them. Once I'm happy that I have a good product that is already selling, I will then use a keyword tool to look for keywords related to it. 9 times out of 10 you will find something that will work for you. It may not always be the keywords you want, but there are plenty of long tail keywords out there than can earn you some good money.

Product first.....yes, BUT don't use keyword tools for anything more than give you a GENERAL idea of what your post titles are going to be.

Remember that there are ALLOT of other marketers making decisions based on the keyword tools.

The most powerful thing we ever did was base our domain decisions based on common sense and not keyword tools.

For example: No keyword tools will tell you the BOBCAT SKID STEER TRACK PART is a good keyword, but that one keyword has been making a nice little 2-5 dollars a day in Adsense for 4 years.

Think of the unusual and you will prosper.

Terry Zulit Auto-Blog Formula - A CUSTOM WP auto-blog that ACTUALLY gets traffic, PHRASE and WORD rewriting to source code - Google caches ALL posts. See Adsense earning screenshot

Pick the product first. It is much easier tham to find keywords instead of spending all the time to find the right keywords than you have to spend more time looking for a product to fit those words
