Default Are these keywords worth pursuing?

Hello,

I'm looking at keywords which have very low PAGE competition but high DOMAIN competition.

The 1st page of google is dominated with sites like ezine article, ehow, associated content, you tube etc. The back link to the ranked pages is very less......in fact less than 100 back-links.But all the above mentioned sites being authority sites have huge back links to them.

Now,what is the best way to approach these keywords -

1. Play the existing game i.e write a ezine article, make a you tube video and build back links and funnel the traffic to my money site.
OR
2. Build a money site and get back links and in due course it will outrank the ezine article and the youtube video.

Thanks a Lot.

It is true... These Authority Sites have TONS, MILLIONS of backlinks to their domains, but how many backlinks does that ONE page or URL you want to compete with have? Luckily, that's what you're competing with/against - Not the TLD. That's why it's not too difficult to, a lot of times, out rank Amazon pages in the SERPs, and other similar sites.

Approach the keywords the way you would with any other keyword - Good On-Site SEO and consistent, anchored backlinks. The strength of the competition is how you're going to measuring the time and effort you're going to have to put forth... If you're going to try and outrank a 5-year old PR3 with a 0-month old PR0, you better make DAMNED sure you optimize the hell out of everything! Meta stuff, titles, <h1><h2><h3>, URLs, Keyword density, Internal linking, etc...

CHEERS & GOOD LUCK!

First, you need to determine what the focus of your site will be.
Are you focusing the site to earn from Adsense?
Are you promoting a product as an affiliate?

You should target on keywords that have at least 1,000 exact searches, so you'll get traffic to your site and of-course rank on page 1 of Google. There are plenty of niches with these kinds of searches that you can compete, just build links over and over again and it will take some time until you rank high but for the long run in pays off.

Good Luck.
