Default Who is using pixelpipe, ping.fm, etc., and why?

Been thinking about adding pixelpipe, ping.fm, onlywire, and such to my arsenal, especially for some of my new sites. My thought is that I would post content to my sites first, then blast it out on these networks with links back to my site when possible.

Good idea? Waste of time? Should I be doing something else with these services?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I use ping.fm because 1. it's free and 2. once setup it makes posting more efficient

Onlywire and ping.fm are great and it is what I and my clients use. Onlywire is a better place to start in my opinion.

It's a great idea! And it can be a huge time saver if you can automate the process. There are a few different ways to automate it:

1. you can take the RSS feed from your blog and post it to ping.fm automatically, just plug the RSS URL into your ping.fm account or you can use Twitterfeed to feed the RSS entries to ping.fm

2. There are a couple plugins for wordpress and joomla that will automatically post every new article to your ping.fm account

... this is a huge time-saver and don't we all love automation?

The only problem is taking the time to create all the various social profiles and then hook them up to your ping.fm account or pixel pipe account.

That would take about 1-3 days to do.. or you could let me do the dirty work for you (check my sig to see how)

If you set up ping.fm on any site and especially if you do it on several sites, be sure the settings are to publish only finished posts.

One of my people updated the ping.fm plugin and didn't check the settings, publishing this:

"Still working on that post"

every time she saved an article. Maybe 20 or 30 times. On two or three posts.

I had PAGES of that one line on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN. Fortunately LinkedIn was the only one I had a problem with (And they warned me about spamming) but it was SO embarrassing to get comments about how long it took me to write a post (!) and about having so many notifications of it on my facebook.

Evidently you have to redo your publishing guidelines every time you upgrade the plugin.

The good news is . . . it publishes successfully!!

i did not get any good result with onlywire so far, i think it is because of free account but for ping.fm was great and a big save time as well even posting to it manually but could blast to big networks with that small work

Ran into the same issue myself when I first got the blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc set up in an API storm of "look at me" goodness.

A bit embarrassing

I use Ping.FM for just such a reason. It allows me to 'ping' all of my statuses simultaneously. Its like the status update version of TubeMogul.

The only issues i think I have is that a new blog post hits my FB fanpage twice, once from the RSS link and another time from the Ping.FM API.

It might seem a bit of overkill, but in the fast paced FB and Twitter Stream, hitting only twice for the same post is a bit on the low side. I have nbot gotten any negative comments about the FB double-post, so I never bothered to "fix" it.

I hope that helps.

i use both ping.fm and pixelpipe. i actually have pixel pipe update ping.fm i have found a few things like my FB company page update better from ping. i love both tools. the only thing i do not like about pixelpipe in terms of posting links, the link pic or lack there of can be really random. so i find it more usefull for link building vs. something that users will click on. this is in reference to social sites. posting the video is pretty great.

I like hootsuite because you can send a message to ping.fm and then out to the other sites but also hootsuite has a ton of other great features like conversation monitoring for the top social networks.

It is a great idea! I use both Onlywire & Ping.fm. These two services do two things: they can help you increase backlinks to your site automatically, and they'll bring more traffic to your site.

The really powerful use of ping.fm is to get your backlinks indexed fast and keep them indexed. Social networking sites get crawled regularly and will pick up on the the backlink you created.

Set up Hootsuite to work with Ping.fm. Takes your website RSS feed and does the posts automagically. Works great

Hi there,
I am on the edge of setting up a ping.fm and onlywire account as well.
But can I use these services with other languges as well, I mean if my blog is in german, can I use ping.fm and onlywire or is it only for english speaking members?

And since I have no idea about these services what about hellotxt and socialadr?

Looking forward to every answer.

I use ping.fm. I don't know if it's doing much, but I figure that it's getting links out there and there may be some potential connections.

I tried several times to set up a feed from one of my sites into ping.fm, but it didn't work. Something is working now and posting, but I have no idea what.

I run the Universal Life Church seminary website. I post my Spiritual Bookmarks at this Universal Life Church site.

Under services/tools you can set up a feed. I used a service to combine several feeds and and dropped the link into the rss ffed link and now I have five blogs posting on all the services.
