Basic SEO for a new site?

Hi,

I would like to know what are the basic things we should do when we got a new site.

I will be happy to know both onpage and offpage optimization.

To perform seo for a site properly, one needs to know how to perform on-page optimization like optimizing Meta tag, body tag, alt tag, choosing right keywords, etc. as well as off-page optimization like social bookmarking, social networking, forum posting, article submission, etc. effectively to get good result.

The first thing you would need to do is a build a list of keywords that you want to rank for, it doesnt have to be a huge list but set some primary keywords for your site and make sure the content on your site reflects those... meaning you are also using those keywords on your website. Then do some off page SEO using the same keywords, this will help you get ranked up for those keywords.

Do well in on page first, make sure your meta tags is competent.

i would suggest you first turn your website into a blog by installing wordpress. Thats if you want quick indexing and SEO.

Then install this 3 plugins.

1.Google Xml sitemaps
2.All In one SEO pack
3.Headspace2 plugin.

This will help atleast helo with your SEO.

The basic thing you should go for is on page optimization. Starting with to write a proper content with the suitable and targeted keywords, then creation of meta tags i.e. met title, meta description and meta keywords.

The URL of each of your page should be proper. For example if your page is “aboutus.html” you should make it like "about_seo_service_provider.html" and apart from all these points there are many things you should consider while optimize any site. But, first you need to have your website optimized by focusing all the on page criterion and then only you can move towards off page SEO work.

For new sites, try Directory Submission, Article Submission, Social Bookmarking and Blog commenting. You just have to be sure that your content is unique.

I would mostly tell you to build a great site and don't go wild on the seo for a little while until you have time to understand it. Tell your friends about the site. Submit to some directories, and then in time your traffic will grow.
