So maybe I want to change my theme somewhere along the line.

Will all my contents be there?

and

Does this affect my page rank / backlinks and other SEO requirements

I recently did it and I had the same concerns. I did lots of research and from what I learned:
No, all your content will still be there. No effect on pr either. The only thing that will be changed, is your sidebar (widget) depending on if the new theme supports it or not.
