Default What happens by linking to Wikipedia?

Hey everyone,

I have a site that has some definitions to some things that wikipedia does a good job with. What if I created a page with those definitions with all the links to wikipedia? Would it hurt or help the site as far as ranking and traffic go?

I know with wikipedia you can actually copy the content as long as I give credit where credit is due etc. But I am just wondering if the search engines would not like it? What do you think?

Anyone? Maybe the title of the thread didn't give what I am asking justice...has anyone ever taken content from wikipedia and placed it on their website along with the links?

As long as the majority of the content on the page is original, it's OK. I would recommend keeping it to a minimum though.

Google does watch for Wikipedia scrapping since there have been a number of scripts that used this to generate massive MFA sites. They're ramping up their efforts to detect duplication of other, similar, content sites as well. So, try to avoid any mass duplication.

I have no idea why google loves and trusts wikipedia. Nor do understand why people
do. It may be good for facts, well known and checked, but the rest?

I'm not sure there would ever be a reason to do what you are proposing.

I myself would never copy wikipedia word for word. Don't be lazy with your
content.

If wikipedia is your best source, holy cow...

Paul

Be sure not to use your keywords when you link to them, as you may continue to help Wikipedia outrank you .
