help! still not listed in 10 first pages of google!

I don't understand why I am still not listed in the first 10 pages of google for my keyword. It is really annoying me.

Any advice on how to get listed there fast?

ok so I'll share a little more information.

I set up a basic blog. It's my first real attempt at making any money as an affiliate marketer. My goal is to simply make my first sale online to prove to myself that this is possible. Then, I intend to simply scale it up.

So the blog is really simple:

1 main page that presells an affiliate product and some additional pages with free information about my niche.

I got indexed in google a couple of weeks ago(sending my sitemap and everything)... Since then, I was focusing on building backlinks - social bookmarking sites, blog commenting, sending articles to article directories with backlinks back to my blog, sending my blog to directories, etcetera

I have over 70 backlinks now(90 percent of them are do follow). I don't know how many backlinks I should actually aim for but I am disappointed that I am not seeing any results yet. I don't even think my blog is ranked at all on anypage(50 pages +)...

That's why I need advice from you all. How did you get ranked?

First off, two weeks isn't much time. Depending on the competition, it might take a little longer.

Next, what are the pages that ARE ranking doing? Generally speaking, to outrank them, you have to do what they are doing, only a little more or better...

Not being a smart*** , but ranked for what? Are you saying that you are competing to rank for a specific keyword or keyword phrase, or is this a build it and they will come scenario?

Have you identified the keyword or phrase you are trying to rank for?

Have you optimized the page for the specific keyword or phrase?

How are you searching for rank?

Well, there's always the issue of the competition of the keyword phrase you are seeking to get ranked. I had one client that wanted to rank "dog training". Well, that's not impossible, but it's not a short term project.

Next, have you done your on-page SEO?

1. h1, h2, h3 tags that include your keyword phrase.
2. Is your kw phrase in the first and last sentence?
3. Do you have a bold, italic and underlined version of your kw phrases?
4. Is there an image with the keyword in the alt-tag?
5. Do you have your kw phrase mentioned at least 2% to 3%?

On-page SEO will outrank a site with less backlinks.

There are of course many other factors, the PR of the backlinks, the age of the domain name, the PR of the domain etc...

I am competing to rank for a specific keyword phrase. I did some keyword research to find it.

I have optimized the page for the specific keyword or phrase using a cool tool I found(free trial-no credit card needed) called Optify

I am searching for rank just by using google and seeing if I can find my blog in the results. There must be a better way to do this. Know of any tools? I tried using Market Samurai before and it was really good but my trial ran out and I want to make a little money before I start to spend money on more tools and gadgets

The competition is something I should theoretically rank well for... nothing like "dog training"

Competition number is actually not that relevant - it depends more on who your competition actually is.

For instance if page 1 of Google is full of authority sites with thousands of backlinks then you haven't got much of a chance (doesn't mean you won't get there but it'll probably take more time).

Whereas if your competition on page 1 is free sites such as article directories, web 2.0 sites, video sites etc. your life will be easier.

You say you don't know how many backlinks to aim for - take a look at the sites on page 1 of Google and check how many each has. That will give you an idea. In case you don't know how to do this, just go to Yahoo! and type in link:theurlyouwanttocheck

Can a blogger blog rank higher than an article on an article directory? Or will I have to submit my article to an article directory and build backlinks to that article?

how long does it take to get ranked in the top 100 on google?

I'm not even in the top 100 yet... but I'm building backlinks every day. Any advice?
