I have a website that's a little over 3 years old. It was the first one i built, and about two weeks of pulling my hair out. The original intent of the site was simply to build value for the clients i contacted and bid offline. As my company progresses, more of my leads are coming online, and i want to optimize the site. I started really delving into IM a few months ago. Now as i learn more about how marketing online really works, i want to try to get this site ranked as i move along the learning curve. It's a hardwood flooring authority site, so the competition is pretty fierce. There is a link to it in the sig page, the optimization pretty well sucks right now, and i'm kinda wondering if i should scrap it and build a new site or revamp the existing one. I also have some pretty relevent urls, way better than the one it has now, and i'm wondering if I could move it to a better url, like hardwoodfloorskansas dot com and just forward the existing url to it. But if i do that, i lose all the indexed pages from the old one right? Mods: If this is in the wrong section please move it. I'd appreciate any advice from my fellow warriors. Thanks!! |

| That's a very good looking site you have there! I would suggest to KEEP that domain... Maybe revamp the site. Do the traditional Optimization: On-Site (page titles, meta description, <h1><h1><h3> tags, optimal keyword density for targeted search terms, internal linking, anchor text in links, bold words, etc.) Off-Site (you know... Backlinking, with proper anchor text links of course from nodofollow sites and diversified pr/sites in general )Do you have a Google Places set up?! If you don't that will give you a HUGE bump in the SERPs if someone in your area searches for hardwood floors. Google Places with Hotpot Google Places and Optimize like any other site and you're gold! CHEERS! |

I appreciate the kind words Scott, it wasn't bad for my first try lol, although i really had no clue as far as optimization. I'll jump on google places and start working on optimizing. I am kinda lost when it comes to forwarding a domain name though. I figured since i already bought urls that are keyword optimized, could i point them towards the .net domain and set up backlinks to them? Or how does that work? |

Hi Jeremy I am not going to mention about on page and off page factors. There are two things that are not too obvious on your site. BTW it is a nice looking site and you have done a great job. 1) The URL for your site Kansas Hardwood Flooring Company when typed in to the browser resolves to Kansas Hardwood Flooring Company But when I click the Welcome link (which is your home page) it resolves to Kansas Hardwood Flooring Company Ensure that the home page resolves to just one url Kansas Hardwood Flooring Company or it resolves to Kansas Hardwood Flooring Company 2) The first link that Google bot will encounter in your site has the anchor text Welcome. There is an algorithm that states G gives max value to the first available link on your page. So you could change Welcome to Hardwood Flooring or just Flooring or Kansas flooring (whatever you feel is appropriate) 3) Do not change any of the URLs as your site is mature and has content that is well indexed. Wholesale changes can affect your rankings in future. Do it one at a time. Best Raviv |

| I wouldn't even worry about the other domains right now. Focus on the main. A simple .htaccess 301 redirect will forward all hits on those other domains. But a domain alone will not rank... Well I've seen that happen before, but it's unlikely. .htaccess HTML Code: redirect 301 / http://www.sandmasters.net GET TA WORK! |

I think you are missing one heck of a lot mate. I think I have explained clearly the first link anchor text concept on the page. When you click Welcome, it goes to the page /flooring.html When you type into the browser your domain URL by itself, it goes to sandmasters.net (www version). Ideally the home page of your site should resolve to one version of the URL. This causes a problem when people can backlinks to two versions of your home page. PM me if you want more help. it is no problem on which domain you have cuz you will get lots of more traffic not only from your main keyword but from many other additional keyword that you dont think of.

Okay, I got rid of the welcome part and changed it to Kansas hardwood flooring. But it still resolves to 2 different url's depending on whether i type it in the phrase kansas hardwood flooring company into the browser and find my site or click on the link on the site.Raviv, am i still not understanding what needs to change?
