Say your keyword competitors has 5k BL all from piss poor websites & you only have only less than 100 but from PR3 and above sites. Is it possible to outrank them?

The answer is usually yes, but sometimes it just depends. You never know with Google. Build quality backlinks as millerb7 said and you should be fine.

Also don't forget the onpage SEO that plays a big role in your SERP results! You can do a fantastic job on offpage SEO get a ton of backlinks, but if your onpage SEO sucks your rankings will be that much harder and more than likely suck as well. Also one huge backlink you really don't hear too many people talking about these day's is the $299/year Yahoo directory submission. If you can afford it and your website is going to be around for awhile, spend the money on it. It can have a lot of leverage on your rankings and is well worth it. Granted that no one really uses the yahoo directory, but in terms of SEO power it is still a good investment. |

It happens every day in the SERPs. I've beat out PR5 pages with new PR0 pages, because I'm more focused on the keyword than they are. |

Yes, sometimes pages are not optimized at all for the terms they rank for, and you can come in and snatch up some good rank!

If you have access to high quality sites for your backlinks, then you can probably beat out the competition. maybe you can decide to have both. |
