Hey, How important is it to get local hosting instead of the much cheaper, better and easier hosting @ Hostgator.com? I can get a German host for a .de domain, which would probably be better than an American host. But the thing is that this host is also 10 times as expensive as the American host. So how important is it? What do you guys do? Cheers, Collatio |

Hi Collatio, I love HostGator and since I'm US based, its a no-brainer decision for me to use them. However, if you are not in the US, the location of your server does impact your search results according to Google. I've got a video on my site where Matt Cutts discusses this exact point > Top SEO Myths that are flat out wrong and could be costing you money and traffic*|*clickbump.com Scroll down to Myth #5 |

Alright, so I do have to get German hosting. Thing is all the companies seem so weird, unorganized and expensive. This is going to be a long day. Edit: New question. What determines my IP? Where my domain is hosted or where my domain is bought? In other words, can I buy a domain from Namecheap and host it on a German server without any loss SEO-wise? |
