Default Where Can I Get Links to My Site? (legit - non spammy)

Having made and run 'throwaway' websites many times before and used all sorts of tactics to generate backlinks, i'm now looking to get backlinks to a legitimate business website which I want to keep squeaky-clean and above-board, yet still rank well/

The problem i'm having is that i'm not sure where to start with the backlinks...

The site is a 'Home Improvement Quotes' website, so I can't get quotes from manufacturers. I also can't get links from similar sites as they're all competition.

I've done the usual profile links, comments, SENuke etc. before on other sites but am looking for the most ethical solutions possible.

Any suggestions/guidance very welcome

I would start off writing press releases and submitting them to PR sites that Google loves. Try PRLOG.org - it's free.

Next, move onto article writing. Submit to as many article directories as you can.

After that move on to Web 2.0 sites like Hubpages and Squidoo.

Try blog commenting on .EDU and .GOV blogs too for a nice boost.

Hope that helps,

~Russ

Agreed. Press releases and article marketing. The reason being is that you get one-way links.

As far as articles go... I normally write a few articles for each keyword and submit them to Ezine Articles.

I then generally spin them all and submit them to MyArticleNetwork, though I think this network may have lost its edge recently.

I'm interested in the suggestions for press releases... is there a list of sites anyone can recommend, or even some software that can make life a bit easier?

Also... i'm not adverse to blog comments, but want to do them properly... is the 'Free Blog Commenting Tool' any use?

Regards

Tim

Posting comments on .EDU and .Gov do boost the PR.

This is still absilutely the best way, although I use more articles submitted to EzineArticles than press releases.

I also believe very firmly that quality will triumph over quantity. A quality, well written, informative article will give you a great deal more viral 'juice' than a dozen (probably more) rubbish articles. Always write with your readers in mind first and foremost.

You can probably get some links from site valuation websites.

Submit your feeds to RSS aggregators.

Write up a top ten list of things to watch out for when getting a home improvement quotes page and submit it to Digg.

Don't underestimate the utility of creating guest blog posts for other sites. You will not only get backlink value but direct traffic as well. Over the long term, a list of blogs that will accept your guest posts can be used over and over.

Guest posting.

Contact high authority blogs or news sites in the niche and offer them a high quality article in exchange for a link.

That's a good start, but a few articles aren't enough to get the results you're looking for. If you really want to establish yourself as an expert AND build links, you'll need a frequent supply of good articles. That way, your name, your link, and your expertise will be all over the place.

And, don't limit yourself to just EZA. They might be the biggest, but they aren't the only good article directory out there. Here is a list of the top article directories, as sorted by traffic and page rank. My advice is to try out about a dozen of them, and see which ones work for you. Then, you can pick your favorites and submit to a handful on a regular basis.

There isn't a need to spin your articles. To me (and alot of folks out there), spinning is a waste of time. You're either stuck publishing the grammar mistakes and run-on sentences that come out of your spinner, or you're stuck spending time trying to clean up the mess. If you want to make some changes to your articles, do it by hand. That way, you'll wind up with higher-quality articles and it takes far less time than spinning.
