Anyway, I have done this (for plumbers, actually) but I can't give a formula. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. Just generate massive backlinks and see how the big G responds over time. | |

Can't be that hard to beat: dundee plumbers - Google Search 1) http://www.tayside-plumbing.co.uk/ (4 backlinks) 2) http://www.johnclarksonplumbers.co.uk/ (335 backlinks (almost all same domain)) 3) http://www.mmplumb.co.uk/ (725 backlinks (almost all same domain)) The first guy below the Maps has zero backlinks. www.zettai.net/find/dundee/plumbers/ |

He wants to be above the maps because in the uk you can see the intergration of map and organic serps. You might be seeing the old 7 pack. It's all messed up at the moment. I have a few plumbing and electrican sites, we can do a bit of a one way link scheme if you pm me. Im looking for a few related links. |

Google places a lot of emphasis on local business, so it gives them an extra boost on the search engine results page as they have verified that these are actual businesses. If the website you are optimising for is an actual business, there's probably no reason why you can't outrank the competitors. If it is not and it is more like a business directory, then it will be a bit harder. Best thing to do is get a name and address on the site, get yourself on sites such as qype and wait for Google to find your business 'in the wild' and get you listed on Google maps. After they do this, verify the listing and continue link and citation building. |
