Default Did We Have Another Mayday Type of Google Slap? Check Your Sites Rankings!

So after reading this thread here New Google Slap Takes Out Article Links, Forum/Profile Backlinks, & Link Wheels? I decided to check some of my site rankings.

It seems that a lot of my sites have dropped in rankings. From what I've seen sites that where ranking on the first page pretty much stayed the same. But sites that I have been working that where on page 2 or 3 dropped considerably.

I was wondering did any other warriors notice any serp changes today?

Yeah, i just checked and I had quite a few changes.

Had one site that ranked #1 and #2 (two diff pages on same site) drop to #3 for just the main page.

another site went from #5 to who knows where, lol.

One went from #2 on second page to middle of page three

But on the bright side, one site did move up to #10 on the first page, it was recently on page two and three

Oh well, just keep truckin, what can we do? Hopefully your eggs aren't all in one basket?

google makes a tweak nearly monthly that effects rankings noticeably. Some months it works against us and others it works to our benefit. A constant reminder that with SEO nothing is guaranteed.

I don't believe anything I read when they say Google is ignoring a type of link (profile, footer, link wheels ect.) Google may devalue a specific link but never a TYPE of link across the board.

Dont freak out if anyone sees a drop in rankings as it is likely to bounce back in a month or two as google just tests out an algorithm tweak.

keep building quality links and you're fine in the long run.

I recently added some forum links and have moved up about 5 places on page 3 for competitive term. Don't believe this crap, just keep it up and it will pay off. When they say not to from experience I have seen this is the time to do it.

Appears to be the same movement that happens every month. Some of my sites went up for some keywords, some went down. Nothing major though.

This is why I am focusing on build a strong list so I can move away from google. Its to much of a risk to put my entire business in something I can't control.

I get that but as gaining free traffic goes, there is simply nothing that beats ranking #1 in google. The only way to play it safe in SEO is to rank a number of sites so if one drops you still have other hopefully ranking till your old rank comes back.

At the same time your email marketing company could kick you out and close their doors with no reason or warning. It's just the risk we take in this aspect of our business.

Definitely some sort of tweak happened that affects people doing SEO work on new sites. Almost all of our sites dropped a bit from 2-8 positions roughly.

went from number 7 to number 8 but didn't think it was because of the new google thing although I can't say why as I am doing slow or natural linking and posting... not gonna worry about it because there isn't much I can do but keep on truckin....

This is NOT an ordinary update. This is a nucking FUTZ update!

My site with tons of great content just went from page 1 to page 30!

Many many people's white hat sites with great content have been slammed back to google's back pages while sites with complete crap - spun articles, blank videos, zero content - have risen to page 1 on google.

Will our rankings come back for our sites with rich content and will these lousy sites with no or spun content be slapped back down? Who knows?

Google has really effed a lot of people with this AND made their search results worse. This has created the OPPOSITE EFFECT they stated they wanted to have: to get rid of spammy sites and make better search engine results. Instead they are in many cases REWARDING spammy sites and making search results terrible.

There is evidence all over the web of this! Read my blog or just do a google search for "bad results from google's latest update" or such.

If I'm not mistaken "quality links" means you didn't build it yourself, according to Google. If you are creating pages or posts just for links then it is NOT a quality link and you may be punished for it.

I could be wrong but this is what I'm hearing. Over the past 3 days I have heard time and again stories about people who have completely white hat sites whose rankings have gone from page 1 to page 5 or 10 or worse.

Can you please tell me what a "quality link" is that you build yourself? I'm thinking maybe a legitimate content filled blog or a twitter account, a Linked In account, stuff like that...? But certainly spinning articles - even well spun ones that read very well, just changing them up with synonyms, changing word order and phrases etc while still leaving them very readable and informative - and posting them to hundreds of article directories seems to be punishable by death (of your rankings) by google.

I am wondering if things like Social Monkee and other such schemes of creating social bookmarks may also be punished. I would guess yes because this latest update - Penguin - seems to be punishing hundreds of thousands of people, many with very good sites with great content.

Kind of off the subject , but I wonder how Pay Pal is reacting to all this ?
since they slap sites down for all kinds of reasons, meaning freezing accounts when they see a risk. Well actually pay pal is suing google on a different issue.
