Default 3 Week Old Website #8 in Yahoo and Bing but nowhere to be found in Google!

Hi everyone!

I have a new website with 10 articles that is 3 weeks old. I fluctuate between position 4 and 8 in both Yahoo and Bing for my keyword (74,000 exact matches/month according to google keyword tool).

Going to google, when I type in site:mywebsite.com I see that about half of the pages are indexed even though I submited my sitemap to google webmasters. When I search for long tail keywords (in google), my site will show up around position 60-80. However, when I search for my main keyword, I'm nowhere to be found! I went all the way to the end of the 74th result page and still couldn't find my website. Even websites with just 1 page that uses the keyword a handful of times ranks.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it normal to be so high up in Yahoo and Bing but not even on the radar on Google? Also, my sitemap is accurate, but google is indexing pages that don't exist. I had: www.mysite.com/articles/long-tail-keyword but changed it to: www.mysite.com/blog/long-tail-keyword long before I submited the xml sitemap. What gives? Why would Google be indexing the /articles category (and ignoring the correct xml sitemap) even though I no longer have that category on my site?

Thanks for all your help - I'm just new/confused! 0_o

Yahoo always indexes and moves up sites faster than Google.

This has happened to me for both my sites. Yahoo/Bing will index your site higher faster every time. Your site is only 3 weeks old - wait another month or so, and Google will catch onto your site for your keywords. If you are fluctuating between 4-8 in Yahoo, I'd say it is likely you will be first or second page in Google in a few weeks.

Had the exact same thing has happened to me with 2 sites, though they weren't new they just seem to rank much better in Yahoo and Bing.

I usually have my sites indexed in Yahoo first then Google. I'm not sure if it has to do with the time your sites go live.

How will you know what position your site is on google when you search that way. I did the same search and a number of my pages showed up, but how do I know what where I'm ranked?

Just because you rank well in yahoo doesn't mean you will rank well in google. I have a site that ranks on page 1 on yahoo for about 5 to 7 keyword terms and either isn't ranking or ranks 115 in google. It has been that way for a while and I suspect that without a good bit of backlinking it won't change much.

Im a newbie too.

My 2 sites have done the same thing. Bing and yahoo didn't even have them indexed last week, but they are both on the first page. In google, they have fluctuated between pg 3-8 since being indexed.

I think the solution (for both of us) is to just keep building backlinks and content. Google will catch on eventually.

Google do need bit more time to index your site, usually more than Yahoo, be patient my friend, it will show up soon, but continue with work on it, fresh unique content, power of backlinks...
good luck

It takes time, skill and effort to get into Google's pants. Create quality content and build links, there is no easy way.

I hope that you're right about my position in Google : )

I'm going to start creating a couple link wheels in order to gain some high quality backlinks so hopefully that will speed things up a bit as well. However, it seems that now Google has both my /blog pages AND /articles pages. I'm hoping that it will eventually phase out the /articles ones.

I think you're referring to my site:mysite.com search? If so, it only is useful by showing you what pages Google has indexed on your site. Normally you can use Scroogle Scraper (you can google it) to get a good idea of what page you rank on (kind of time consuming since you have to search for your keyword and then just scroll through the results till you find your page).

However, I also use a free firefox plugin from Seomoz called (I believe) Rank Checker. However, since my site is a .co domain, it will usually find the same domain name as my website, but with the .com ending. Which is my competitor : (

Have you spent time implementing a backlinking strategy for that site? Did it work?

I think you're absolutely correct and yes, it sounds like we are both in a very similar situation. Good luck with your site!

I have the same problem with my websites.
One is 3 weeks old and not indexed in Google.
Is there a fast way to have it indexed?
Some of the courses I have taken get their websites ranked very fast. Why is this?
