so i've been building a campaign around some SEOT numbers around 1,200 exact monthly. this was about 1 month ago. Today I did a check on the SEOT and this keyword is below 500 now. what gives? Does the traffic really fluctuate that much? and no, this keyword should NOT have seasonal changes. Thoughts? |

Same deal here, I have a keyword that previously received 91 exact SEOT daily. Now it recieves 3 exact SEOT daily, practically overnight. The Google Keyword tool didn't change it's volume. Also, no seasonal changes here either. I wish I had an answer for you.

Let's say I build a site out for a client in hopes to get some traffic on a keyword that doesn't fluctuate too much on seasonal changes. A spike like this is damaging to my business rep. I had some keywords that were around 1,000 SEOT exact/monthly and now they are under 200. OUCH! I have yet to see one that spiked the other way around. They have all gone down. | |

Hi Guys, We've had many reports of this over the past week and have discovered the cause of the issue. We use two different tools to gather keyword traffic data; the Adwords Traffic Estimator and the Google Keyword Tool. This was done as it was technically simpler and because the two tools used to give exactly the same figures. It has recently come to our attention that, in particular for exact match traffic, the results are quite different. We are addressing this issue with great urgency and the development team are investigating alternative methods to ensure that the traffic figures will be taken from a single source (the Google Keyword Tool). The good news is that we are confident that the higher traffic value that was previously displayed (and is still seen in the Google Keyword Tool) is the accurate value so don't panic if you have just built a site based on those keywords.
