Default In terms of SEO - Is there any point of social bookmarking?

Hi, I always keep an eye on my sites backlinks and although I do a lot of social bookmarking you never see a link from say digg or something. Is there any point of doing social bookmarking? In terms of SEO?

18 year old student looking for online job, writing, services ect. $10 an hour, message me if you are interested in hiring me, thanks.

I believe that if you have thousands of back links, it looks weird if you don't have bookmarks on the most popular social bookmarking sites.

I have digg links, Xomba, and other socials pointing back to my sites, so yes they count.

I would not do them by hand because of the time constraints. But they are like all links cumulative.

Do they help in rankings? Yes, but in an odd way. G want's to return relevant results to please the searcher. Links are votes (essentially). G loves social media, so it helps them determine that your relevant even though the juice on the links may not be very big.

My jury is still out on this one, I don't often see social bookmarks coming up in my backlinks, but I can't help feeling that genuine social 'votes' are going to count for far more in the future what with the whole backlinking game getting totally out of control. Of course, social bookmarking can be gamed too...

I rarely do. Sometimes I may use Digg, SU or Reddit - but I really don't see the point. If these backlinks count - they really don't count for much...

I use them primarily to speed up indexing. In some niche I have seen G results mimic the ranks on the social bookmark numbers. But that can also be explains as more people found them on G, so they bookmarked them.

A link serves 2 purposes.

1. to generate visitors in and of itself
2. to tell search engines about your content

So clearly there are benefits to Social Bookmarketing... but only if those links are on pages that are relevant. Most people chase thousands of links and end up with nothing because the pages containing those links are useless.

Social bookmarking is the best way to build links to a new page on your site. It's quick, simple, and the links don't have a lot of weight. So, yes, they are really good. Those are links you want to get to every page of your site, and you don't have to worry about them hurting you. Keep using social bookmarking, it is helping.

Social Bookmarks don't weigh as much as the other backlinks and there are a LOT of nofollow social bookmarking sites so maybe this is why you don't see social bookmark links often.

I agree with InternetMarketingIQ...

the point about generating social bookmarks is to get traffic!

yes you get a backlink with each bookmark, but you're hoping to get noticed by people - not google - by using this method...

I also believe that social bookmarking tools and portals can be great to increase and improve web traffic shares plus ranks of the websites rather than building new links for them. Sometimes the page views generated might surpass the expected objectives.

Of course this does not mean not new links would be gained but since the submitted articles and contents would appear on pages and after a while probably disappearing, so the traffic building potentials of such systems can be more important.

I believe that they counted too much in the beginning, then Google corrected this issue and they don't count as much now. But I believe in the near future that more social indicators will start to show how important a website is. It should also say something about traffic.
