Default Should pingbacks be approved?

Hey warriors,

I've been publishing my first several articles to different article directories and one of them seems to have been republished on several sites with the links intact. I'm sorry if this seems a newby thing to ask but is this a good thing and should I approve these pingbacks? If I do will they just appear as outbound links to those sites in the comments section of my article?

Thanks in advance,
David

I do wonder about this as well actually. When I have a wordpress site and I backlink to it via blog commenting, I get all these ping-backs.

Now I assume that if I accept the pingback, then I'll get a 2-way link which can result in Google discounting my original link from blog-commenting. So what I tend to do is delete all of my pingbacks.

o_O should I be doing this?

Just wanted to add to my original question; what about actual comments from people who include their website url in their name? eg. someone posted "nice blog, will come back and check it out later" or something and had their url as their name. Do having these links there affect my site in any way?

Hopefully this makes sense..

It does affect your site. When you get a comment like that, actually any kind of comment, go check it out before you approve it. If its a pharma site, or porn site, you might want to let that pass by.

Comments, trackbacks, pingbacks are all designed to interconnect the web. You don't want your site to non-connected, you want to be a part of the internet landscape in a good way.

Check out the sites that you are getting referenced from. If you like them, approve them, if you don't, just pass them by.
