HI guys, this might be a stupid question but I am a newbie, I have been posting articles in different directories" not the same article by the way" should I have the same keyword in the anchor text in all the directories? I will diversify. I am just doing a campaign on that keyword. Thanks |

Most people have a top keyword they are going for. You need to have two or three other good keywords so that you can vary the anchor text. So use your main keyword for say 40 -50% of the anchor texts. then use the other keywords the rest of the time. At least that is what I do. Kenj |

My knowledge tells me that you need to vary your anchor text to appear natural to Google since after all we are manipulating our search engine rankings that is against Google guidelines - let people link to you naturally. In varying your anchor text make sure your main keyword is still on it. Ex. your main keyword is "laptop computer" you can vary this to "cheap laptop computer" "laptop computer for sale" etc. Of course when you vary you anchor text make sure you also offer that service/product based from your anchor text. Naturally, different people wouldn't link to you with the same anchor text. So, varying anchor text helps looking natural to Google. Personally, I only shift to another anchor text when my first keyword is already on the first page. |

It's all about what would appear natural when indexed by Google. If you're on a gigantic link building campaign for example, and suddenly you have 300 links appear with the same anchor text, how natural would that look to the eyes of a search engine? How many webmasters would use the exact term 300 times from 300 different site? |

I tend to go 90% main anchor and 10% random words blended with my anchor. You never know when google is finally going to tweak their algo to severely punish sites with only 1 anchor text in their backlink profile.
