How to check the number of backlinks?

I think there is a Yahoo tool or similar where you can check the number of backlinks of your competitors web page or articles. Any suggestions appreciated.

you can do it using yahoo or google, but if you want to know exactly the sumber use yahoo.

write that in the search engine of yahoo.

yahoo site explorer tool I have just come across again and this tool seems to do the job. The only thing is that it doesn't appeat to throw up the number of backlinks for ezine articles.

Just go here[http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/] for checking the number of backlinks of your site.

You also can find the links by searching "link: your domain" in Google.

Yahoo site explorer will only give you limited number of links and I remember reading somewhere they will be closing site explorer down. If you want to get a complete list of backlinks, i recommend majesticseo.com

All backlink checker tools are not that accurate. So don't rely on them too much. But there's nothing wrong in using them to see your number of backlinks. Anyway, I would like to suggest seocentro.com and submitexpress.com. You can find a backlink checker there.

As others have mentioned, Yahoo Site Explorer is the best solution to check backlinks for free. They even allow you to pull the data out of it easily, including the anchor texts of the links!

For paid solutions I'd recommend MajesticSEO as they seem to have the most up to date link information and don't restrict you to 1,000 links like YSE does.

before that i use backlinkwatch, iwebtool to check backlink of myself and backlink of competitor. Until i start using spyglass SEO. i can feel it totally awesome which they provide a complete track of competitor backlink base on keywords and have the website that they build backlink from. It you want to compete them, you need to build backlink that they build and build more than them. Then no doubt that you able to overtake them in PR.

You can use market samurai to find out how many backlinks your competition has and you can also install SEOQuake from Mozilla Firefox..... these two will give you a rounded idea of how many backlinks your rivals have, also you will find out in MS how many times they are using the keywords in their articles and so on..............

Market Samurai recently said that they weren't very sure about Yahoo's accuracy any more and they were switching their backlink gathering to Majestic.
For one of my sites, I've been doing all the backlinks myself, manually and regularly checking them against Mkt Sam/Majestic and SEOQuake/Yahoo(?).
The differences are substantial e.g today's results : MktSam 30 backlinks to index page and 39 to the domain :: SEOQ : 90 to index and 90 to the domain.
I know the number of links I have done manually and allowing for a few I may have picked up naturally, I would say that SEOQ is far nearer the real total unless I had about 75% of all my 'hand-crafted' back links deleted as spam!
By hand-crafted I mean an email address in a person's name, not an auto generated one, entering of date of birth and other personal details robots wouldn't do, signature with a 'wise' quotation as well as a link, some minimal bio text etc and a reasonably intelligent post, in a thread which isn't for newbies - if I have to make a post at all (definitely not 'Hi, great to be here...').
If 75% of my manual links were taken as being spam and Mkt Sam is right, how can you account for the much higher SEOQ numbers?
Also if you click on the number of links, SEOQ lists them for you, and I can recognise the majority of the names.

Since Yahoo Site Explorer is no more, one way of doing this is to use Google Webmaster Tools (but only for your site), the industry seems to be moving more towards a premium service to find out your competitors backlinks
