Default How Do I Change My Site's Description On Google?

When I click on my theme keyword and look for my site, I see a rather ugly description.

"Jan 27, 2011 ... Filed Under (all my different categories) by MY PEN NAME on 22-01- ..."

It is pretty ugly....
How do I change the description under the title to something a bit more enticing?
I want my site to be a real eye-catcher...

Thanks

Not sure what you are referring to exactly. Do you mean the description of our site that appears in the search results? You change that by changing the "description" tag in your HTML. It will take a few days for Google to see the change and register it.

I think you are referring to "meta description"? If you are not using wordpress and have a static html page, you can change your meta title, description, keywords, etc. You can try to use this free service and generate meta... META Tags Generator

If you're using wordpress as your platform, you can install the plugin called HeadSpace 2. Thats the one I use to change the description, title, and a bunch of other things. Hope that helps.

I am using Word Press Direct, is there anything built in that I might be able to use to cure the problem?
I'm not sure what you guys mean when you say "meta description". I am talking about the 1-2 line description that appears in the search results, under the title of the website and above the domain.
It is very ugly and most certainly will not appeal to many people who stumble upon my site.

Get the plugin All In One SEO, install and activate. It will show up under Settings on your WP Admin console. Go to it and the entry for Home Description will be your meta description.

I just wanted to add, once you change it, be patient when expecting the change to reflect in google. My updates took a little longer than I had expected and I really thought I had made a mistake. So just be patient

THank you very much!
One last thing, where do I find & download plug-ins? I don't really know what they even are, as I have never downloaded one/used one that wasn't in there....
Make any sense? I'm such a newbie...

The best thing you can do is make sure your content contains a really compelling intro paragraph. You may also choose to use this same text for your meta description field.

Beyond that, you have zero control over the text that Google decides to use for your site description.

In some cases they will use your meta description text as is. However, in the majority of cases, they will pull a snippet of text from your content that they feel more accurately describes it.

This means you stand a better chance of getting your crafted meta description selected, if the content accurately reflects it.

Hope that helps

Bad information is bad. You can change what google displays with the many different plugins as listed above (most seo plugins have that option as well).

Hi Landis, I think you are misunderstanding my statement.

Surely you are not suggesting that a plugin exists that will force google.com to use my meta keyword description text for their search snippet even though they've decided to pull and display snippet from my content to instead?

Meta description can solve your problem but remember one thing you need to have unique content which should be related to niche of your website for better online customers and reputed ranking over search engine.

I have had good luck doing this by simply changing the meta description of the page. Like stated above you can do it with plugins for Wordpress or simply by editing the page manually if you are into that.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I have been looking all over the web for answers to this question for over an hour and everybody tells me to go into the HTML code and add a meta tag...lots of confusing work for a newbie, but I'm Learning. The funny part about this is I already have SEO All-in-one. I KNEW I wrote this description somewhere but could not for the life-of-me remember where. Anyway, found it, fixed it and thanks again for an easy fix.
