SEO in spanish ?!?!

Hello,

Ok my question is twofold and I will try to describe it and "expose" my lack of expertise on the subject... lol

1. For the majority of spanish speaking countries (Latin America, Spain) what is the default search? Is it Google.es ? By saying majority I should maybe say default. There will always be people changing it to .com.

Related or not to the above is :

2. How important is the extension for SEO?
I'll illustrate with an example what I mean:

Suppose we have two sites for weight loss:
bajardepeso.es and bajardepeso.com
which have same "everything" (age, links, content)
which one would have better SEO for someone who is typing "bajar de peso" in e.g. Argentina ???

I say related to #1, in case the google extension itself (.es in our case) would play a role.

Or maybe I am missing something else... ?

All comments, links, etc. on the subject, especially from international affiliates, would be greatly appreciated!

Is very important if you used .COM you have better chance of ranking for "Bajar de peso" on all Google search engines with less Offpage optimization , but if you go with an extension like .ES

You will need more Offpage work to rank in places like Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela since your domain extension is Geo target to specific Google engine.

how about other languages like japanese or thai, etc.. which doesnt have english characters in the domain at all.... im talking about the domain name...

i want to know whether buying domain names in japanese itself is better or eng... im talking about the domain names only, coz the domain names of othr languages that hv no eng char is converted to signs n symbols like $%& .. etc.. what think is tht... whats the point of getting good domain names if they are al converted to random symbols... am i thnkin rite??

kindly share your knowledge if u know about this
