no consistent link building, but I rank #1 , how come?

I totally don't understand this. I was implementing an sEO method then I ranked #1 for the phrase I targeted right now, it's been weeks., and I don't build any other backlinks for it but it remains #1.

Do you have any ideas of possibilities what's going on?

Well, it could just mean that there's very little competition for the keyword that you're targeting, and the competing websites are not optimized very well (on-page) and/or have very few or no backlinks.

Go to freeproxyserver dot net and use it to go to google dot com and then type in your search term and see if the results are the same as the ones you have been seeing.

whats your site and what keywords are you ranking for if you dont mind telling. I think that the competition will have very few links and poor onpage SEO. Also it may be a temporary boost,if you are at page 1 I would begin to make more backlinks to guarantee the spot and not let it slide

Maybe it has something to do with the level of competency for that particular keyword.

I agree.. this could be the case.

The comment below this could also be the case, your browser is showing you results you've clicked on and visited.

If you're signed into a gmail account, that will happen for sure.

As all are saying that there will be very few competition against ur keyword n those who are targeting the same keyword doesn't optimized their site..n always see the results by logging off from ur mail..clear the history and cookies.
