Get a plugin that handles it for you and then just paste your code into the plugin. The other option is to put it in the theme header.php file. In this case it goes before the wp_head() I believe. Never put it after wp_head() as wp_head() has to be the last thing before the closing </head> tag. To be safe I would go with the plugin option.

One is theme has own option in its options available like a box where you just paste the Google analytic code.

Second option is use Google analytic plugin for do this job.

Third option is same as MarceMontane discuss above that you insert code in the footer.php, before the </body> tag
